Vision:
At B Light Restoration Center, a ministry of Shammah Outreach and Consulting Services, individuals in survival mode are served. Most are unhoused, deal with addiction, struggle with mental health issues, or are re-entering society from incarceration. The goal of BLRC is to provide a community that is supportive, encouraging, and empowering in a holistic manner; meeting spiritual, mental/emotional, and physical needs which will help them to leave survival mode and thrive.
Structure is one of the biggest needs of those served. Artistic / creative repurposing activities serve to be therapeutic as well as allow for a small stipend while simultaneously creating a real life object lesson - - - the item being repurposed, in its current state is no longer valued or being used, but with some work and transformation, its value, worth, and purpose are restored. This is what Jesus does for mankind!
The Activities Director may choose one of the following:
Food and housing provided in exchange for 10 - 15 hours of service.
Combination of both, a stipend along with housing provided if additional hours are spent working. SOCS is currently applying for grants which may allow for a stipend in addition to housing for an intern who would like to have more hours. This stipend is dependent on the funding of the grant.
Shammah Outreach and Consulting Services is a small non-profit in Flint, MI that empowers individuals in survival mode to thrive by filling in gaps in services, allowing obstacles to be removed that typically keep individuals in a toxic cycle. Several gaps that many don't see is the need for not only mental/emotional and physical needs to be met, but the spiritual as well. SOCS believes that a relationship with Jesus and discipleship is one of the biggest gaps. A sense of belonging and a community that supports, cares, empowers, and disciples, is also a gap in the services offered.
