Who We’re Looking For…
The Creative Director will play a vital role on the greater Messaging team (an internal creative marketing agency group for Awana) and will lead graphic designers, copywriters, film makers as well as work with contractors and freelancers. We’re looking for a player-coach who is relentless in bringing out the best work in others and can lead as well as design or write. This “real world” creative leader should understand that the creative process is about solving problems and maintains a healthy balance for the team regarding form and function. Ultimately, the Creative Director will lead a team that has a reputation for producing excellence in a way that is resourceful, humble, agile, highly competent, service-minded, that is on brand in look, sound and feel as we engage churches, individuals and organizations to equip leaders in order to reach kids all around the world.
Reports to the VP of Brand + Messaging and collaborates with the Marketing Director, Communications Director regularly and others in the organizations as needed.
Understands the Awana global brand and partnership pathway thoroughly. Proactively allocates resources, manages the creative team’s workload and ensures creative deadlines are met.
Keeps an eye on trends, is an active curator and can intelligently speak to why a creative project “works”
Brainstorms and contributes creative concepts for marketing and communications strategies to serve the needs of our partners and in correlation with the Relationships Team.
Adeptly manages agency and vendor relationships (outside agencies, art services, web designers, printers, etc.) to ensure Awana receives the best pricing for quality services and production.
Identifies how to evolve both internal and external brand storytelling elements that resonate with employees and customers and help build brand advocacy and the brand over time
Directs the Creative team in the production of all brand, messaging and marketing materials, including: print and digital advertising, conference materials, social media, campaigns, promotions, videos, webinars, and other marketing collateral
Builds production processes to ensure deliverables are of the highest quality and have been through the proper proofing, approvals as well as user testing and quality assurance
Mentors and coaches individuals on the Creative Team in order to strengthen the creative muscle of those who report to the Creative Director as well as build team unity
Shepherds the Creative team members in terms of professional development as well as managing budgets, projects (in conjunction with our department coordinator) and deadlines
Supports, upholds and demonstrates the Awana cultural values in internal and external communications and relationships.
Performs other duties as assigned.
5+ years in creative leadership with a strong portfolio across multiple creative disciplines (agency experience a plus)
BA degree in marketing, design, fine arts, communications or other creative discipline
Demonstrated leadership experience with an emphasis on shepherding, learning and mentoring a team
Strong proficiency in the Adobe Suite, as well as capabilities in the production of other media products, e.g., digital, interactive, email marketing
Familiarity with the US church landscape or global nonprofits
Occasional travel required.
