Reports to: Store Manager
Purpose:
The Assistant Store Manager(s) shall share responsibility for the operational and ministerial success of the Love INC of Lake County’s Loved Twice Thrift Boutique. The Assistant Store Manager(s), together with the Store Manager, is responsible for maintaining a friendly, supportive and loving environment for guests and volunteers, while generating revenues to support the mission and vision of Love INC of Lake County.
The Assistant Store Manager is part of the store’s leadership team and works closely with the Store Manager. Also supports the Executive Director and the Love INC of Lake County board and church volunteers.
Expected hours: Part-time, 20 hours/week
Work Hours: Your schedule will be set with your Manager(s), the possible hours will be from those listed below. Flexibility may be possible (most Saturday work is mandatory):

Key Responsibilities:
General Operations
● Maintain a warm, welcoming and caring atmosphere for volunteers and customers.
● Assist the Store Manager in developing and implementing procedures for store operations, including opening and closing the store; procedures for accepting, sorting, pricing merchandise; security procedures for staff, handling of cash, and other relevant procedures as needed.
● Assist the Store Manager overseeing the team that processes donated items, managing the rotation of items and the disposal of donated items in a timely fashion. Includes: sorting, cleaning, repairing, pricing, tagging, displaying, and disposing of donated items, providing leadership to volunteers; sets standards for merchandise and communicates them to volunteers.
● Assist the Store Manager in managing inventory supply.
● Process cash register (POS system) transactions with integrity and accuracy, including maintaining cash drawer integrity and adhering to security procedures and cash-handling guidelines to prevent fraud and errors.
● Understand budget management and assist Store Managers with controlling petty cash expenditures.
● Maintain and increase knowledge of thrift, resale and retail trends through publications and periodic training.
Volunteer Management
● Assist the Store Manager with coordinating the training and development of volunteers, ensuring volunteers are fully trained and competent to perform the elements of their roles as defined.
● Assess the store's need for volunteers and work with the Store Managers and Executive Director to communicate needs to the churches.
● Assist the Store Manager in developing schedules for volunteers to maintain adequate personnel at the store to accomplish tasks and respond to customers; assign and supervise volunteers who are in charge of specific items and areas in the store.
● Provide supervision for volunteers, including regular and ongoing monitoring of appropriate focus in a Christian ministry environment, work product and work habits; timely reporting of volunteer hours, and performance excellence.
● Maintain current knowledge of Love INC policies and procedures as they relate to personnel; communicate to and monitor volunteers for adherence to policies and procedures; take appropriate action as necessary to ensure volunteers are in compliance.
● Assist the Store Manager in regular communication with volunteers to provide direction, guidance and oversight.
● Consult with volunteers on a regular basis, addressing concerns and sharing ideas.
● Provide timely direction and feedback to volunteers.
● Maintain positive and encouraging relationships with store volunteers and customers.
● Assist the Store Manager in maintaining record of all volunteers and report volunteer hours for monthly tracking.
Administration
● On days when the Assistant Store Manager closes the store, accurately tabulate daily cash receipts and make a cash deposit at the end of each business day.
● Assist the Store Manager in providing a monthly and a yearly report of store activity, as requested by the Store Manager.
● Provide information for newsletter inclusion and post signs/ads for monthly specials or other specials.
● Provide leadership of safety regulations of the store
● Attend Love INC staff meetings, as requested.
● Other duties as assigned by the Store Manager.
Qualifications:
1. Personal relationship with Jesus Christ and in agreement with the Apostles’ Creed, Statement of Standard, and Who We Serve.
2. Regular attendance at a Christian church (preferably in Lake County, IL).
3. Comfortable praying with people and leading a team in prayer
4. Strong leader and team player, with the ability to work independently and cooperatively, often with multiple priorities and deadlines.
5. Solid overall communication skills. Ability to actively listen to customers and volunteers, and articulate the mission and vision to our community.
6. Practice discernment and possess a non-judgmental attitude. Have the ability to listen to, empathize with and love others.
7. Detail oriented, reliable, and trustworthy, especially related to POS responsibilities.
8. Ability to remain flexible and adaptable in a growing and changing environment.
9. Ability to maintain healthy, professional boundaries
10. Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
11. Reliable and dependable
12. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite programs.
13. Prior retail sales experience and Spanish speaking capability are desirable.
