Job Description

The Building Maintenance Manager is a full-time leadership position responsible for the overall care, safety, and functionality of Glorieta’s facilities. This role is first and foremost a people-manager and team leader, charged with developing, supporting, and holding accountable a maintenance team that serves guests, staff, and the mission of Glorieta with excellence.

This role requires someone who enjoys developing people just as much as solving facility problems. Candidates who prefer independent work over team leadership may find this role challenging.

The Maintenance Manager provides strategic direction, operational oversight, and hands-on leadership to ensure camp facilities are safe, well-maintained, and distraction-free so that ministry can flourish. Your team should exceed guest expectations of the overall appearance and ambiance of camp.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Set clear weekly priorities and adjust plans as needs change in a dynamic, guest-facing environment.
  • Effectively juggle changing priorities while maintaining clarity and calm for the maintenance team.
  • Lead day-to-day work planning, scheduling, and ticket management through the CMMS system.
  • Stay closely engaged with the quality of technicians’ work, with strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
  • Hold technicians accountable for appropriate time management, productivity, and follow-through.
  • Schedule on-call coverage to best support guest needs and operational demands.
  • Supervise and develop direct reports, including:
    • Lead Maintenance Technician
    • Maintenance Technicians
    • Maintenance Associates (as applicable)
  • Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a culture of care by intentionally loving and supporting staff through:
    • Birthday recognition
    • Christmas and seasonal celebrations
    • One-off acts of encouragement and care

Maintenance Operations & Vendor Coordination

  • Have a working knowledge in the following areas: Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, Painting, Locks, Boilers, HVAC, etc…
  • Spend approximately 60% of time in the field providing hands-on leadership, support, and oversight.
  • Spend approximately 40% of time on administrative responsibilities, including planning, scheduling, and reporting.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for maintenance vendors and contractors.
  • Schedule and coordinate annual and bi-annual inspections.
  • Maintain preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure camp property meets the needs of guests and staff.
  • Schedule and oversee contractor work for projects beyond the technical scope of the maintenance team.
  • Maintain a log and documentation for annual maintenance permits and required inspections.

While the Maintenance Manager is often present in the field, they are not expected to be the primary technical expert. Likewise, the Lead Technician supports leadership efforts but does not carry people-management authority unless explicitly delegated.

Qualifications

The "ideal" candidate will have:

  • A vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Experience in a maintenance role, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, propane, and HVAC.
  • Maintenance certifications (Journeyman or other)
  • Experience in management
  • Proficiency in or ability to learn Microsoft Workplace, Google Drive, and Gmail
  • Ability to plan, manage, and report budgets proficiently
  • Ability to effectively lead staff in areas such as: selection, development, coaching, motivation, scheduling, and performance evaluation
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently
  • Ability to work long hours frequently and subject to seasonal workload increases
  • Ability to manage a variety of projects and teams simultaneously
  • Willingness to perform routine tasks regularly and on time, with deadlines weekly and monthly for most tasks.
