Job Description

This is a full-time, hourly position. The Challenge Course Technician’s (CCT) primary responsibility is to ensure that all participants using the challenge course elements and adventure activities have a safe and rewarding experience. Qualities that are critical to success will include good judgment, flexibility, patience, and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time. The CCT must be able to thrive and enjoy a supportive role and know how they contribute to the overall mission of camp. The CCT often works independently, but must also be comfortable leading groups as well as working closely with others on training programs, adventure outreach, planning, and similar tasks. On a day-to-day basis, the CCT performs a wide variety of tasks; including risk management, low and high ropes maintenance, construction and reconstruction, removal of trees and dead limbs, responding to high element course rescues, assisting with training programs for new staff, assisting other staff as needed, and administrative tasks such as recordkeeping, participation in regular team meetings, email correspondence, etc. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting Challenge Course Manager with all aspects of safety, including, but not limited to, developing, maintaining, and implementing Policies and Procedures for each element and activity.
  • Keep current with all regulations, governing bodies, and new requirements that will affect the challenge course industry (ACCT, ANSI, OSHA, etc.) Responsible for inspection and maintenance of all elements and activities 
  • Uphold maintenance and inspection protocols in compliance with industry standards - including proper documentation
  • Assist in maintaining all training documentation and keeping other staff aware of impending recertification dates
  • Communicate with Challenge Course Manager to ensure elements and activities are available, in operational condition, and properly set up
  • Continually improve elements and activities through the identification of issues and pursuit of long-term solutions in line with Glorieta’s mission 
  • Efficiently communicate and coordinate daily with summer staff
  • Assist in recruiting summer staff
  • Regularly monitor operators to ensure compliance with Policies and Procedures
  • Construct and reconstruct elements and activities as needed  

Qualifications

The “ideal” candidate will have:

  • A personal relationship with Christ that permeates all aspects of their life 
  • Ability to manage, encourage, and get along with a variety of people simultaneously and communicate well with their supervisor, team members, staff, and guests
  • High familiarity and technical knowledge of challenge course and zipline operation, construction, and maintenance. 
  • Working knowledge of ACCT, ASTM, and OSHA Standards
  • ACCT accredited certification preferred
  • Level 1 or higher SPRAT or IRATA certification (or equivalent experience)
  • At least 800 hours of facilitation experience
  • Familiar with high angle rope rescue techniques
  • Must be comfortable with heights, and have ability to work safely in that environment
  • Willingness to perform routine tasks regularly and on time, with deadlines weekly and monthly
  • Must have proficiency in the Microsoft Word and Excel, their Google counterparts, Google Drive, and Gmail and the ability to learn new systems with an ability to write formal documentation clearly and accurately 
  • Strong problem solving skills and a desire to learn new things quickly
  • A strong sense of self-motivation accompanied by a good work ethic and the ability to work alone for extended periods of time
  • A natural ability or strong desire for organization, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Must have experience working with hand tools 
  • Must be able to perform tasks out of the ordinary on short notice with a degree of flexibility 
  • Proven ability to operate heavy machinery, such as a Skid Steer OR ability to learn those skills on the job

Compensation and Benefits
Pay range starting at $15.00. Compensation is hourly with overtime pay.

  • On-site housing with utilities and appliances included

  • PTO - base amount of 20 days annually, sick leave, and volunteer time off
