Job Description

Physical Education Teacher & Asst Athletic Director Cherokee Christian Schools is seeking a dynamic, organized, and mission-minded educator to serve in a dual-role position combining Physical Education instruction with Assistant Athletic Director responsibilities. This individual will play a vital role in promoting physical wellness, teamwork, and sportsmanship among students while also assisting in the organization, communication, and daily operations of the CCS athletic department.

The athletic department is an extension of the school’s mission and culture. Therefore, this position should model and uphold the same Christ-centered values, standards, and commitment to excellence both on and off the field.

Primary Responsibilities

Primary School Physical Education Instruction

• Teach engaging Physical Education classes for Primary School students in a Christcentered environment

• Promote teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, healthy habits, and physical development • Develop age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that encourage student participation and growth

• Maintain classroom and gym management expectations consistent with CCS standards

• Build positive relationships with students, parents, faculty, and staff

• Assist with supervision duties, field days, and other school activities as needed

Assistant Athletic Director Responsibilities

Operations & Event Management

• Assist and support the Athletic Director in overseeing and developing all aspects of the athletic department

• Help organize game schedules, practice schedules, and facility usage

• Coordinate transportation, officials, facilities, and game management logistics

• Oversee inventory, purchasing, distribution, and collection of athletic equipment and uniforms

• Monitor required paperwork including physicals, eligibility forms, and participation documents

• Ensure athletic facilities, including the gym, field, and CAB, are prepared, maintained, and secured for practices and events

• Assist in recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and evaluating coaches

Communications & Community Relations

• Maintain athletic calendars, website updates, and athletic social media platforms

• Assist with athletic department communication through email, social media, TeamSnap, Athletic Dispatch, and other communication tools

• Help coordinate athletic recognition programs, banquets, awards, and special events

• Support fundraising initiatives, sponsorship efforts, and community partnerships

• Capture and promote positive stories, accomplishments, and events within the athletic program

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required

• Teaching certification preferred

• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced school environment

• Passion for Christian education, athletics, and student development

• Experience with coaching, athletic operations, or event management preferred

• Experience with social media and communication platforms preferred

• Flexible, servant-minded attitude with a willingness to support the broader mission of the school

Reports To

• Primary/Middle School Principal • Athletic Director

Compensation

• $41,000 per year

o Teaching responsibilities are based on a 9-month schedule

o Some summer hours are required for Assistant Athletic Director responsibilities, though these would not be regular office hours and may be completed remotely

• Medical, dental, and vision packages available •

Salary does not include coaching stipends or camps. Actual income may be higher than the listed salary.
