Ariel Ministries was founded in 1977 with a mission to evangelize and disciple our Jewish people with a strong emphasis on Bible, theology, and doctrine. The organizational structure of Ariel Ministries includes a corporate office located in San Antonio, Texas, Camp Shoshanah located in upstate New York, and representatives and directors located throughout the world.
Position Description: The Finance Manager is a corporate office staff position responsible for safeguarding the financial integrity of the ministry and managing daily transactions, quarterly reports, and the annual budget. This role demands expertise in nonprofit accounting (FASB/GAAP), audit preparation, and navigating complex international financial transfers, ensuring the compliant and secure movement of funds to our global branches.
Key Responsibilities:
I. Core Accounting & Compliance
- Manage all accounting cycles: Oversee and execute accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger reconciliation, including tracking donations through our Blackbaud database program
- Payroll and HR Support: Process all payroll, manage expense reimbursements, and ensure accurate related tax filings (e.g., W-2, 1099, I-9)
- Tax and Reporting: Ensure timely and accurate filing of all critical nonprofit tax documents, including Form 990
- Audit Management: Serve as the primary liaison and lead coordinator for the annual financial audit, preparing all necessary schedules, documentation, and managing the relationship with external auditors
II. Financial Analysis & Strategy
- Budgeting and Reporting: Develop the annual operating budget and conduct detailed variance analysis (budget vs. actual) to monitor performance, maintaining a current dashboard of financial status and health
- Cash Flow and Controls: Maintain robust internal controls and policies to protect assets, track cash flow, restricted funds, and spending trends, providing actionable reports to the DCO and Executive Leadership
- Risk Management (International): Oversee all international fund transfers, navigating complex foreign currency, regulatory, and religious restrictions to ensure funds reach global branches securely and compliantly
- Other duties as assigned to support the financial and operational health of the corporate office and its global network
Qualifications, Skills and Attitudes:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Required Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in finance/accounting, with at least 3 years specifically in a nonprofit organization or ministry setting
- Technical Expertise:
- Expert-level proficiency in QuickBooks (Desktop or Online), including efficient workflow management and reporting
- Thorough knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles (FASB/GAAP) and fund accounting
- Proven track record of successfully preparing for and leading an annual financial audit
- Familiarity with standard nonprofit tax and federal HR forms (990, W-2, 1099, I-9, 941, etc.)
- Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience handling international fund transfers and foreign operations finance
- CPA, CMA, or MBA certification
