NEW CITY Director of Worship & Arts Job Description
Job Title: Director of Music / Arts (Part-Time) Direct Report: Senior Pastor
General Information:
The Director of Music / Arts serves New City Presbyterian Church by overseeing and cultivating
the musical and artistic life of the congregation. This role exists to support and enhance the
gathered worship of God’s people, ensuring that all elements of music and liturgical arts are
theologically rich, musically excellent, and pastorally formative. The Director will work closely with
the Senior Pastor to shape services that are Christ-centered, participatory, and rooted in the
historic Christian faith with modern appropriation, while also engaging the gifts of the
congregation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1) Lead and oversee all aspects of music for weekly worship services, including song selection,
arrangement and rehearsals in collaboration with the Senior Pastor.
2) Recruit, develop, and shepherd musicians and vocalists, fostering both musical growth and
spiritual maturity.
3) Plan and lead weekly rehearsals with preparation, clarity, and encouragement.
4) Coordinate and schedule volunteer teams for Sunday services and special services (e.g.,
Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter).
5) Cultivate a catalog of songs and liturgical elements that reflect biblical truth, theological
depth, and congregational accessibility (primarily, Trinity Hymnal & Indelible Grace).
6) Provide musical leadership during Sunday worship services (instrumental and/or vocal).
7) Work with church leadership to incorporate appropriate artistic expressions (e.g., Scripture
readings, visual elements, seasonal liturgies) into worship.
8) Maintain and organize music resources, charts, and equipment.
9) Encourage a culture of joyful, congregational singing rather than performance-driven
worship.
10) Communicate regularly with team regarding schedules, expectations, & encouragement.
11) Plan for at least one Sunday off a month for each member of the music team.
12) Maintaining subscriptions to Planning Center, CCLI, Song Select and other tech services.
Terms of Employment:
1) This is a part-time position, averaging approximately [10-15] hours per week, including
rehearsals, Sunday services, and preparation time.
2) Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
3) The Director of Music / Arts is expected to be a committed participant in the life of New City
Presbyterian Church, including regular attendance in corporate worship.
4) Agreement with the church’s theological commitments and values.
5) Regular meetings with the Senior Pastor for planning, evaluation, and encouragement.
6) Employment is at-will and subject to the policies and procedures of New City Pres.
