Executive Director

Job Description

. Position Purpose

The Executive Director acts as the primary operational leader of the church. They are responsible for translating the Senior Pastor’s vision into actionable strategy and ensuring the organizational health of the church. The Executive Director provides leadership and oversight to the operational staff and handles the administrative and human resource functions of the congregation.

II. Core Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Staff Oversight

  • Direct Management: Supervise, coach, and conduct performance reviews for the Parish Care Coordinator, Staff Administrative Assistant, Business Operations, Facilities, and IT.
  • Executive Support: Assist the Senior Pastor in setting staff meeting agendas, prioritizing high-level initiatives, and managing special projects.
  • Alignment: Ensure that every department’s goals and budgets are in direct alignment with the church’s overall mission and the strategic plan.

 

2. Human Resources & Culture

  • HR Management: Oversee all personnel functions, including hiring, onboarding, payroll, benefits administration, and maintaining the employee handbook.
  • Conflict Resolution: Act as the primary mediator for staff conflicts and ensure a healthy, productive, and spiritually vibrant staff culture.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensure the church is compliant with all local and federal employment laws and church policies and Leadership Council.

3. Finance & Stewardship

  • Budgetary Oversight: Work with the Business Operations to track and monitor monthly cash flow and expenses.
  • Reporting: Present clear reporting in partnership with Business Operations as needed to the Senior Pastor, Staff and Finance Committee.

 

4. Communications & Connections

  • Brand Integrity: Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms (web, social media, print) via the Parish Care Coordinator.
  • Assimilation: Oversee the "Connections" pathway through the supervision of the Parish Care Coordinator (from first-time visitor to active member) to ensure no one "falls through the cracks."

·         Event Coordination: Providing planning, coordinating, and executing of church events, including special services, meetings, and community gatherings in partnership with the Staff.

 

5. Facilities, IT, & Administration

  • Systems Stewardship: Supervise the IT Specialist to ensure that Microsoft 365, Breeze (ChMS), and security protocols are optimized.
  • Facility Management: Oversee the Business Operations to ensure the building is safe, clean, and functioning as a tool for ministry (including capital improvements) including being the point of contact for the volunteer safety team.
  • Administrative Flow: Direct the Staff Administrative Assistant to ensure the central office provides high-level support to all ministries.

 

Qualifications

  • Experience: 7–10 years of leadership experience, preferably in an Executive Pastor or Executive Director/Director role within a large church or non-profit.
