On our Bridgeport campus, we provide men with a faith-based, low cost, structured and active recovery program that fosters spiritual growth, personal discipline, life skills, and vocational discernment, so they can return to their community sober, employed, and motivated to serve.

Summary

The Director of Counseling is responsible for overseeing and providing professional mental health and addiction counseling services to men in recovery within a faith-based residential treatment setting. This role ensures delivery of high-quality, compassionate, and clinically appropriate mental health care that aligns with both professional counseling standards and the mission of the organization. The Director will supervise counseling operations, recruit and retain qualified counselors, conduct assessments, provide or coordinate treatment for co-occurring conditions, and develop partnerships with external providers to supplement program services.

Key Responsibilities

· Provide and oversee individual and group addiction counseling, consistent with evidence-based practices and rooted in a faith-based recovery model.

· Maintain active licensure in the State of Connecticut as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor (e.g., LADC, LADC-I, or another recognized licensure).

· Recruit, hire, and mentor counselors with appropriate licenses, experience, and a demonstrated commitment to supporting faith-based approaches to recovery.

· Participate actively in program leadership meetings and contribute to the development of organizational policy related to clinical services.

· Perform intake and ongoing assessments for co-occurring mental health conditions and create individualized treatment plans.

· Make appropriate referrals to external providers for mental health care beyond the scope of in-house addiction counseling.

· Build and sustain at least one formal partnership with a community organization or medical provider able to offer comprehensive counseling services, psychiatric evaluation, and medication management when needed.

· Provide case management support to ensure continuity of care for residents referred to outside mental health services.

· Train, supervise, and support counseling staff, interns, and/or volunteers while promoting professional and spiritual development.

· Maintain all counseling records in compliance with confidentiality laws, HIPAA, and organizational policies.

Qualifications

· Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field required.

· Current Connecticut licensure as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or equivalent is required. Additional licensure (LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or Psychologist) preferred.

· Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in addiction treatment, preferably in a residential setting.

· Administrative experience structuring, recruiting, and supervising a counseling team required.

· Prior supervisory or program management experience strongly preferred.

· Demonstrated experience working with individuals with co-occurring mental health disorders.

· Strong knowledge of referral networks and local mental health service providers.

· Commitment to compassionate care, ethical standards, and the integration of faith-based recovery principles.

· Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Working Conditions

Full-time position based in the residential treatment facility.

Requires flexibility to work some evenings or weekends depending on program needs.

May involve occasional travel to community partners, training, and networking events.
