Basic Requirements:
He must agree with the Church’s goals and statement of faith.
He must take advantage of continuing education and training when possible.
He must have been or is presently serving in an area of church leadership.
He should have a studied knowledge of both O.T. and N.T. including their relationship to one another and a commitment to their relevance.
He should have academic credentials that involve a working knowledge of Bible and Theology in order to have a consistent interpretation of Scripture.
He should have a strong understanding and agreement to a grace motivated ministry.
Qualifications:
He is to be a man according to 1 Timothy 3: 1-7, an Overseer, who “Aspires” or has set his heart to the work of the ministry and has shown a heart for God and for the people of the church.
He also is a person above reproach, husband of one wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money, managing his own family well, not a recent convert, and having a good reputation with outsiders.
Job Description:
The Associate Pastor needs to have a strong relationship with the Lord and a desire to keep growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
The Associate Pastor shall be willing to assist the pastor in all duties such as visitation, counseling along with teaching and preaching. In addition, for the present time, all ministries that involve youth through high school age shall be giving aid when and where necessary.
The Associate Pastor prepares and coordinates the teaching curriculum and activities for the middle and high school youth and in such a way as to challenge them.
Being able to:
A. If necessary, create a biblical purpose/mission statement for the youth in keeping with the mission statement of the church in order to keep all aspects of the youth ministry focused and purposeful around the mission statement.
B. Teach compelling lessons that encourage teens to seek the Lord, think critically as applying biblical teachings toward their world and to grow in their spiritual life.
Additionally:
1. He should be able to build strong relationships with congregants in a friendly and consistent way. Recruit and develop volunteer helpers to carry out the purpose/mission of the youth ministry.
2. Meet regularly with volunteer leaders to inform them of coming schedules and train leaders to be more effective in their ministry to the youth.
3. Set and oversee the youth ministry budget reflecting the vision and purpose.
4. Attend weekly church staff meetings, share with senior pastor of goals and accomplishments, prayer needs and praises.
