Our name, Amani ya Juu, is a Swahili saying which means “Peace from Above”. We are a nonprofit business committed to peace and reconciliation for women from many African nations and cultures. We use beautiful African materials to create high quality fair trade goods and accessories. This work enables a sustainable living for the women of Amani. Rooted in faith, God grows us in dignity and respect for one another, bringing transcendent peace.
Amani is committed to holistic development. Women gain experience in sewing, quilting, tie dye, bookkeeping, quality control, leadership, and design. As new women enter the program they are mentored in quality workmanship and ethical business practices. At Amani the women enjoy community meals, singing, praying, and Bible study. Relationships planted in God’s peace transform even the most troubled lives.
The ultimate outcome of Amani is a woman of peace. In the face of conflict and poverty, Amani women regain stability and share the gift of peace in their homes and communities. Amani offers a wide selection of lovely products: handbags, home & kitchen decor, jewelry, and children’s items. Amani’s exceptionally designed products are made out of local African materials and feature innovations in tie-dye, screen print, and batik. Amani is a unique non-profit in that she is financially self-sustaining. Every product sold contributes to the consistent income of the woman who made it.
