Position Overview
The Head of Upper School is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the academic, social, and emotional development of students in grades 6-12. This position requires a dynamic educational leader who can effectively manage faculty while providing compassionate guidance to students across middle and high school years, ensuring a cohesive educational experience throughout this critical developmental period.
Primary Responsibilities
Faculty Leadership & Management

Recruit, hire, develop, and evaluate upper school faculty across grades 6-12

Foster a collaborative and engaging teaching environment
- Facilitate regular faculty meetings and professional development opportunities
- Observe classroom instruction and provide constructive feedback
- Support teachers in implementing curriculum and addressing classroom challenges
Student Support & Guidance
Program Development
Community Engagement
- Serve as the primary liaison between the upper school and parents
- Communicate regularly with families about school programs and student progress
- Represent the upper school at community events and functions
- Collaborate with lower school leadership to ensure programmatic continuity
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in education, educational leadership, or related field required
- 7+ years of teaching experience at the middle and/or secondary level
- 3+ years of administrative experience in an educational setting

Understanding of adolescent development and middle/high school curriculum
- Experience working with diverse age groups from early adolescence through young adulthood
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
