Job Description

Position Description: The position of Food Service Manager reports to the Director of Camp Shoshanah Operations and is a seasonal role responsible for institutional food services for the camp staff and attendees. This position requires a committed disciple of Messiah Jesus who physically works at the camp in Keeseville, New York. The role requires a blend of strong leadership skills, business acumen, and a deep understanding of food safety regulations. The Food Service Manager is responsible for managing staff, ordering supplies, maintaining budgets, and ensuring that attendees have a positive dining experience. The ideal candidate for this role is a detail-oriented, customer-focused individual who is able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Ideally this candidate would be available to work from mid-May through August/Labor Day weeekend.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of kitchen and dining room staff
  • Ensures compliance with health and safety regulations
  • Collaborates with cooks and other staff to plan menus
  • Manages inventory, budget, financial records, and ordering of supplies
  • Prepares food and monitors food preparation and presentation and oversees food and beverage quality control
  • Creates and manages staff schedules
  • Trains and mentors new employees
  • Conducts regular inspections of the kitchen and dining areas, ensuring high standards of hygiene and cleanliness
  • Develops and implements procedures to reduce waste and improve efficiency
  • Plans and coordinates events or special functions
  • Maintains relationships with suppliers and vendors
  • Handles complaints and feedback

Required Skills and Attitudes:

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in inventory management systems and business operations
  • Experience with conflict resolution, problem-solving, and decision-making
  • Bachelor’s degree in hospitality management or related field
  • Certification in food safety or food handling
  • Previous experience in the food service industry
  • Leadership and managerial skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Eligible to work in the US
