Job Description

CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTER

OVERALL OBJECTIVE - The Children and Youth Minister exists to nurture, provide a safe haven, and create a fun environment for the children and youth of Brooksville Methodist Church (BMC). This role aims to provide opportunities for children and youth to grow as disciples of Christ, and model a strong personal relationship with Christ. This position will plan, prepare, coordinate and teach approved curriculum for toddlers through 12th grade, and to ensure the nurturing of infants. This position requires regular communication with parents, as well as collaboration with the Senior Pastor and other church staff.

 

WORK EXPECTATIONS -

  • Part-time position: 20 hours per week

 

QUALIFICATIONS –

  • Demonstrated passion for children and youth ministry.
  • Prior experience in children’s and youth ministry role(s).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Christian Education, Ministry, or a related field (preferred).
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with church staff, volunteers, and parents.
  • Proficient in curriculum implementation and event coordination.
  • Knowledge of child safety standards and best practices.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Proficient administrative skills.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES -

Curriculum Implementation:

  • Implement approved curriculum appropriate for children and youth that align with the church’s mission and vision,

Leadership and Team Management:

  • Oversee children’s ministry volunteers, including nursery coordinators and Sunday school teachers.
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to ministry volunteers.
  • Sustain and lead acolyte program for church services, ensuring positions are filled in advance.
  • Be a regular part of the greeting process for children and families during church functions.

Sunday School and Programs Coordination:

  • Organize and coordinate Sunday School programs, and weeknight gatherings.
  • Plan and execute consistent worship experiences, fellowship events, and discipleship opportunities for children and youth.
  • Plan routine off-site activities, and programs for youth to help facilitate interest and bonding.

Spiritual Care for Children and Youth:

  • Pray regularly for the children, youth, and their families.
  • Offer support, encouragement, and guidance for faith development.

Child Safety and Protection:

  • Implement safety protocols and guidelines, such as Safe Sanctuary principles, to ensure the well-being of children and youth.
  • Conduct screening and ensure background checks for all volunteers are performed.

Communication with Parents/Guardians:

  • Regularly update parents and guardians about ministry events, programs, and their children’s progress.
  • Foster trust and engagement within the church community through effective communication.

Outreach and Evangelism:

  • Create relationships with the Methodist School Center, local schools and organizations associated with the church to promote growth.
  • Promote church-supported activities and programs to attract new participants and foster connections.

Resource Management:

  • Assist in budget preparation and development for the Children and Youth Ministry.
  • Manage resources effectively to support ministry initiatives and enhance spiritual growth opportunities.
