Job Description

POSITION TITLE: CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

REPORTS TO:   Chief Executive Officer

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Finance and Accounting

·         Cash management – oversee day-to-day operations performed by Operations Manager, including tracking cash flow for Capstone operations (general and administrative efforts)

·         Investment management – manage cash transfers between investment and bank accounts; work with Chief Investment Officer on investment strategies

·         Oversight of annual audit effort; liaison with CPA firm as required

·         Oversee financial reporting process

·         Oversee preparation, approval of and filing of IRS and state required reports.

 

General and Administrative

·         Occasional meetings, phone conferences and research on grant requests involving questionable grantees, personal inurement or other potentially complicated and risky situations

·         Operations procedures and forms review including input and review of marketing materials

·         Contract review working with in-house counsel as necessary

·         Research tax, and giving issues and strategies

·         Banking relations

·         Corporate insurance – regular business; workers comp; D&O; E&O application; and Cyber policy

·         Assist with training of support personnel in giving solutions and in financial aspects of new business opportunity implementation

 

Fundraising and Business Development

·         Attends and makes presentations on certain planned giving ideas for potential donors

·         As required, grant applications to foundations such as with The Huston Foundation

·         Review marketing department donor communications of current activities and events

·         Assists in developing monetary and strategic goals for fundraising program

·         Evaluates financial effectiveness of each fundraising program and makes recommendations for increasing fundraising capacity with the same or alternate future events

·         As required, work with current donors to raise money for operations and/or building acquisition

·         Work with executives as needed on on-boarding of new business and donor opportunities

 

Other

·         Assists CEO with assigned tasks

·         Attends board, Executive Leadership Council and staff meetings as directed

·         Attends training and workshops as directed

 

  PROFESSIONAL ATTRIBUTES OF THE POSITION

 ·        Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related academic field

·         Experience in the non-profit industry highly preferred

·         Experience with planned giving and major donor development tactics

·         Experience with planned giving solutions and the tools to market them to new clients

·         Some supervisory experience with accounting/finance staff

·         Ability to manage complex projects and to multi-task

·         Requisite computer skills

·         Good communication skills, both writing and verbal
