Position Summary          

The Youth and Family Ministry Department needs multiple adult volunteers to invest in the lives of our MKs (Missionary Kids). Contribute to growing and increasing the longevity of missionary families and to prepare the next generation of missionaries.

Position Responsibilities              

  • Lead/participate in Bible Study and other group activities; diligently prepare to deliver lessons and coursework with insightful Biblical spiritual perspectives; mentor and disciple students in one-on-one setting or as a group
  • Act as chaperone during free time and group events; intervene in a caring, corrective and authoritative manner to ensure safe and appropriate conduct
  • Drive youth group to activities; ensure that vehicle is reliable, is not carrying more passengers than the required occupancy and that each passenger is using seat belts
  • Assist to enable a positive learning environment by creative use of all available resources and prepare additional materials when needed
  • Create and maintain an attractive, well-kept, safe meeting area; regularly clean and check function of equipment, learning materials, etc.
  • Assist with various programs in the Missionary Kids ministry

Position Requirements 

  • A deep and growing walk with the Lord Jesus that includes your personal spiritual growth and the ability to support others in their spiritual growth
  • Embrace the vision, mission and core values of JAARS
  • Willingness to learn and grow as a leader and in experience/knowledge of youth needs and issues
  • Enjoys and is motivated to work with Middle School and High School Students
  • Valid driver’s license is required if driving program participants
  • Must have valid auto insurance in North Carolina
  • Previous related experience working and/or teaching young adults is a plus
  • Criminal background check, child safety training, child safeguard review required

JAARS makes Bible translation and language development possible, especially in the most remote places on earth. We do that by enabling locally appropriate and sustainable solutions in transportation, technology, media and training.

We need more staff to make that possible. Of those who work at the JAARS Center in Waxhaw, N.C., 50% are volunteers either short or long term, full or part time, and of all ages and  backgrounds. Missionaries and a few paid personnel round out the staff.
