The Executive Artistic Director is responsible for carrying out the mission of CYT locally and envisioning the CYT brand, culture, quality, and overall experience of the CYT participant. The role provides vision and direction to produce 18 Musical Productions, 150 classes, and 6 weeks of summer camp yearly. The Executive Artistic Director ensures that the local vision aligns with the larger vision and mission of CYT.
Reporting directly to the CYT Chicago Board of Directors and partnering with the Executive Managing Director, the Executive Artistic Director will give direction to local staff, Chapter Coordinators, Artistic Teams, Teachers, Production Staff, students, and the community at large.
To the qualified Executive Artistic Director, we offer:
- Salary of starting at $70,000-$80,000, commensurate with experience

The ideal candidate will have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and approach their work with a Christ-like attitude, extreme diligence, and strong proficiency in leading, organizing, and influencing staff and volunteers. They will possess excellent verbal and written communication, detailed organization, and a commitment to maintaining the highest levels of ethics and professionalism.
Primary duties of the Executive Artistic Director:
- Develop strategic goals and initiatives alongside the Executive Managing Director
- Develop and give direction for musical productions, classes, and camps.
- Manage and give leadership direction to staff through staff devotions, prayer, daily communication, and annual performance reviews
- Oversee the hiring, training, and review process for all artistic teams and teaching artists.
- Maintain artistic quality of excellence and rapport with staff, artistic teams, parents, students, volunteers, and the community at large
Requirements for the Executive Artistic Director:
- Alignment with our company values and code of conduct.
- Experience in casting strategic goals and vision.
- Experience in managing a staff of 25 or more employees.
- Demonstrate strong leadership and speaking capabilities.
- Background in theater arts, ministry, or educational programming.
- A strong understanding of both the artistic side and business side of a theater organization.

Christian Youth Theater (CYT) is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit, theater arts training program for students ages 5–18.
Each local chapter conducts three sessions (Fall, Winter, and Spring) teaching drama, voice, dance, and specialty theatrical workshops at weekly two-hour classes over 9–10 weeks. Enrolled students have the opportunity to audition and perform (or work behind-the-scenes) in a Broadway-style musical performed for the community. CYT Chicago also offers summer camps for kids ages 5–18, where they will spend a week learning musical theater skills, culminating in a showcase performance for family and friends!
