The focus of this position is to oversee the development, implementation and on-going administration and coordination of programs and strategies to facilitate the spiritual growth of BMBC members into Christ-likeness. This position facilitates discipleship growth on the personal level, one-on-one level with fellow believers, in small groups, and in mid-sized groups. This position requires some evening and weekend work hours.
Christian Education Duties and Responsibilities
Work in conjunction with superintendents of Discipleship Training, Missions Education, Sunday School, Tuesday School and Vacation Bible School and with mentorship sponsors develop a unified and strategic educational program in support of BMBC’s stated mission, objectives and ministries.
Oversee on-site, internal membership and inter-church virtual learning opportunities.
Stay abreast of exemplary trends in Christian Education and, as led by the Holy Spirit, lead in the development of new and visionary directions for BMBC Christian Education.
Assess membership needs for integration of life-application strategies for all BMBC constituencies into Christian education approaches
Assess membership needs for integration of technology and virtual platforms into Christian Education approaches
Monitor, track and promote extended on-line learning
Promote electronic tools and classroom help that enhance learning.
Explore collaborative learning partnership.
Assess the training needs of new and experienced teachers and develop/secure training and other resources to aid their development; conduct teacher training/skills interventions as required.
Research and direct the selection, purchase, and distribution of educational materials for children and adults.
Guide the recruitment of teachers including the enlistment of adults to work with youth.
Teach Christian Education classes as appropriate.
Develop programs and processes to promote and track Christian Education attendance and growth.
Develop and maintain a Christian Education expense budget.
Attend regularly scheduled church staff meetings.
Attend and supervise Sunday and Tuesday Schools. Attend other Sunday and weekday worship services as directed by the Pastor.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as a liaison to select programs, ministries, department and auxiliary leaders of BMBC.
Work with the different entities of the Southern Baptist Association.
Serve on BMBC Christian Education liaison on BMBC Strategic plan team
Qualifications (including skills and abilities)
Person of integrity, Christian faith and character who models the Christian lifestyle and understands and supports The Baptist Faith and Message’s doctrine in all areas of faith and practice.
Demonstrated ability to communicate Christian values with clarity and effectiveness to adults, youth, and children.
Strong interpersonal skills, enthusiastic attitude and demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with leaders and workers in other BMBC ministries.
Demonstrated leadership skills and Christian service orientation.
Demonstrated initiative and commitment to advance the Gospel through Christian Education.
Computer skills: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, E-mail, Google Suites, Internet and virtual communications platforms
Education and Experience Preferences
Confessed Christian who has a love of people and a God-given zeal to serve
Bachelor’s degree in education/training related disciplines or equivalent training and experience
Graduate studies in Christian Education is welcomed
Experience in discipleship, program coordination, volunteer recruitment preferred
Training/experience in needs assessment and curriculum development is desirable
Expense budget development and tracking experience is desirable
BMBC membership will be required upon offer acceptance
