Job Description

MISSION:

The Samaritan Women – Institute for Shelter Care is a Christ-centered ministry striving to address the deficit of survivor services for victims of domestic sex trafficking in the United States.  Our mission is to equip new service providers and strengthen existing providers through education, mentorship, and research.  Our vision is that any survivor—anywhere in the nation—would have access to qualified, compassionate care.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of National Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing TSW’s fundraising efforts including major gifts, planned giving, corporate giving, and grants. This position requires a senior-level fundraising professional with a national reach and the experience, skills, sophistication, and presence to implement a fundraising plan that supports the strategic goals of the organization.

RELATIONSHIPS:

  • The Director works closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors on strategy and outcomes and coordinates messaging strategy with the Director of Communications.
  • The Director convenes and directs the Development Committee, leveraging volunteers nationwide to advance our mission.
  • The Director remotely supervises 1-2 Development Associates who are primarily responsible for processing individual gifts and donation reporting.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in related field, required; Certificate in fundraising management preferred
  • 7-plus years’ experience with demonstrated outcomes in building a funding strategy and securing sustaining support
  • Proven experience with capital campaigns required
  • Demonstrates servant leadership, embraces the mission of TSW, and exemplifies a collaborative, decisive, motivating, and engaging communication style, both verbal and written
  • Proven track record of success raising in excess of $3mil annually
  • Demonstrated understanding and administration of planned giving
  • Outstanding public speaking and interpersonal skills
  • Proven leadership skills in forming, equipping, and dispatching a volunteer team in support of development
  • Relies on Biblical discernment and Scriptural support for leadership and problem solving
  • The Samaritan Women is a Bible-believing, Christ-centered ministry and its religious character is evident in all we do. Candidates for this position would be required to agree and adhere to our Statements of Faith and Code of Christian Conduct.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors and Executive Director to create a development plan that increases income to support the strategic direction of the organization
  • Set annual fundraising goals with the Executive Director
  • Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors
  • Cultivate major donor prospects for an ask; identify and prepare any supportive personnel, follow-through with the ask, receipt, recognition and reporting.
  • Develop strategies for deepening our relationships with existing donors
  • Develop and track proposals for all corporate and foundation fundraising
  • Grow the organization’s planned giving program
  • Supervise Development Associate(s) responsible for our fundraising database and tracking systems, gift processing, donor acknowledgement, development-related financial reporting, and coordination of 3rd party fund-raisers.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy among the Board of Directors and staff
  • Advise on the creation of publications and/or collateral to support fund raising activities

SALARY and BENEFITS:

  • Annual salary based on full-time exempt status.
  • Benefits include 10 days paid leave, optional 401k plan and health insurance with company contribution.
  • TSW upholds a 90-day probationary period on all new hires.  
  • The Samaritan Women is a national virtual organization with staff currently in four states.
  • This position does not require relocation but will require a moderate amount of travel.
  • Candidate should expect to provide for his/her own home office and communications technology.
