POSITION:
Paid Part-Time Director of Youth Ministry. Flexible hours, to be negotiated with Pastor and/or Church Board —with an average of 10 hours per week.
PURPOSE:
The purpose is to minister to the youth of our church and community in grades 6-12 and to administer, develop, and implement youth ministry programs designed to meet the spiritual, social, and emotional needs of the youth, leading them to spiritual commitment and disciplines. RESPONSIBILITIES: • Pray for the youth
• Regularly attend Sunday worship services at MHC
• Establish meaningful personal relationships with the young people in the congregation and community by investing in their lives, such as attending extracurricular activities (ie: sporting events, concerts, school plays, and awards ceremonies)
• Plan, implement, and attend weekly activities for the youth, during the school year, that are relevant and effective in instructing, training, nurturing, and equipping youth for leading a Spirit-filled life of faith and forging deep Christian friendships which may include but are not limited to:
· 1Lux weekly youth meetings
· Bible study
· Worship
· Fellowship
• Provide hands-on opportunities for service projects and mission trips for youth to learn how to live out their faith in helping meet the needs of others
• Plan, implement, and attend special summer events such as concerts and retreats
• Plan, organize, and attend youth camps & conferences
• Participate in annual youth ministry training and individual spiritual development
• Manage the MHC Youth budget
• Plan fundraising events as appropriate
• With help from the Pastor, recruit and develop adults within the congregation to serve as committed mentors
• Work effectively with parents to foster support of the youth program, including ongoing communication to provide opportunities for input and feedback
• Work alongside other church staff members as a team player, attending staff meetings, and sharing in the vision and ministry in which MHC has been called
• Other duties related to youth ministry at MHC as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated walk with Jesus Christ
• A heart for the youth
• Adherence to church doctrine as outlined in the Brethren in Christ Manual of Doctrine and Government
• Life lived in a Christ-like manner, demonstrating high Biblical standards, as a model for all youth
• Sensitivity to discussions that should remain confidential within the youth group and the ability to discern when situations should be escalated to the Pastor
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and develop trust among youth
• Ability to work effectively and independently
• High School Diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred
• Valid PA drivers license
• Experience working with youth in a teaching or ministry setting
• Required PA child abuse clearances
