Job Description

Position Title: Senior Human Resource Specialist 

Reports To: Chris Staser – Director of Ministry Operations 

Status: Full Time 

Position Summary 

Responsible for maintaining and enhancing the BLOC (Believing, Living, One, Christ) Ministries’ human resource function by planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resource policies, programs, and practices including compliance with all applicable government regulations. The primary objective of this position is the enhancement of an employee-oriented culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, employee retention and development, and high performance that aligns with the BLOC Ministries’ mission, vision, and strategic goals and objectives. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

Organization Development/Culture Building 

  • Adheres to and embraces BLOC’s culture and handbook. 
  • Identifies and monitors BLOC Ministries’ culture so that it supports the attainment of the organization’s goals and promotes employee satisfaction. 
  • Designs, directs, and manages a company-wide process of organizational development that addresses issues such as succession planning, superior workforce development, employee retention, organization design, and change management. 
  • Participates in a one-on-one weekly meeting with a direct report in BLOC leadership. 

Talent Management/Recruitment & Onboarding 

  • Collaborate with leadership to establish and implement standard recruiting and hiring practices and procedures necessary to recruit, hire, and retain a superior workforce. 
  • Responsible for new hire process from recruitment through onboarding and orientation. 
  • Maintenance of employee files according to regulations. 

Training, Development, and Support 

  • Responsible for development and implementation of human resource training for all employees. 
  • Provides guidance and support to leadership and management regarding personnel and HR issues. 

Performance Management 

  • Utilize the HRIS system to reduce administrative tasks and empower employees to meet the needs of the organization. 
  • Establish and monitor an employee performance review structure to allow employees to set and work toward goals, foster personal and career growth, and provide a continuous open line of communication among staff and management. 

Compensation Strategy 

  • Responsible for advising leadership on organization salary and fundraising structure and pay policies. 
  • Responsible for annual salary analysis and reporting. 

Benefits Administration 

  • Assist in researching and negotiating benefits contracts. 
  • Processes benefits enrollments and terminations and verifies that deductions are handled properly. 
  • Responsible for processing short term disability and workers compensation claims and correspondence with insurance companies. 

Compliance & Documentation 

  • Maintains compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations. 
  • Assists with the development and maintenance of HR related policies and updating the employee handbook. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Business, or Organization Development, or equivalent years of experience 
  • Nonprofit experience preferred and ability to tactfully engage in ministry culture. 
  • Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations and ongoing community involvement, preferred. 
  • SHRM Certification preferred. 
  • Experience with HRIS systems

  • Knowledge and experience in employment law, compensation, organizational planning, recruitment, organization development, employee relations, safety, employee engagement, and employee development. 
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills. 
  • Effective interpersonal relationship building and employee coaching skills. 
  • High level of confidence and the ability to communicate firmly and effectively. 
  • Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs. 
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems
