Remote Assistant Manager

  • Rescue Me
  • Remote
Contractor Administrative Nonprofit Remote

Job Description

Want to impact lives for eternity from your own home!? Our family has lived in south Asia for over seven years only 20 minutes from the world’s largest brothel. We are starting two huge projects and need some professional help. First, we are starting an income generation project for those vulnerable to and the survivors of human trafficking in south Asia. This will include mostly handicraft production and retailing among other business initiatives. Second, we are also starting a loving home for the countless children born in the brothel system to give them a chance to grow up outside of human trafficking and experience God’s love. Check out www.JacobBerlin.com for more info, particularly in the brief videos.

Work Environment:

While there is no office to come to, there is still a team and a work environment. The manager is very supportive and prefers open communication. Even though the assistant manager will work independently on most tasks, the manager is readily available to answer questions as needed. Phone calls, emails, and video chat are all common forms of communication and meetings occur in a timely fashion. Please keep in mind that different time zones may affect communication speed, though. It is also important to keep in mind that this is a start-up. As much as is possible, work and communication will be orderly and systematic, but a certain amount of flexibility and patience is needed during the creation process. This is needed and expected from everyone on the team, including the manager.

There is no set time for work as long as deadlines are met. 40 hours/week. At least one year commitment.

Based upon experience and quality of work. Hourly preferred, but willing to consider salary or hybrid pay structure. Self-employment status.

Job Description:

The assistant manager will essentially run the office. No decisions will need to be made without input or direction from the manager but, once that information is received, completing the task/process and final decision making on your own is expected. Some information is highly sensitive and a non-disclosure agreement will need to be signed upon hiring. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Administrative work such as filing expense reports, donor and partner relationship management including sending thank you emails and cards
  • Coordinating and managing start-up of retailing products for social enterprise.
  • Coordinating and managing business analysis and research for new business initiatives.
  • Coordinating and managing print and virtual publications such as prayer updates, magnets, and presentations.
  • Coordinating and managing contractors such as social media manager, web designer, and accountant.
  • Miscellaneous tasks as needed, which may occasionally include personal assistant-type work for the manager

Important Qualities for Candidate:

Trustworthy and honest are almost more important than experience. Because of the work we do, it is critical that the assistant manager possess these qualities. Self-motivated, able to work well alone, organized, responsible, punctual, and detail-oriented are also important qualities. Since this is a remote position, able to communicate well via email, phone, and video chat is critical. Business, including finance, and tech savvy are also necessary. Being tech savvy includes proficiency with MS Office, Google docs, Facebook, etc. As stated above, this role will involve overseeing contract workers so it is not necessary to be able to do the work in each area of business and finances, but an understanding of these areas is necessary for proper management and being able to recognize what quality of work the person is doing. It is important that all work is in line with the social enterprise’s vision/goal/objectives and the assistant manager will help with that through their work and overseeing the work of others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years experience in management in social enterprise (business and/or non-profit sector).
  • Management and finance experience.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in business and/or non-profit administration or related field.
  • Good understanding of cross-cultural communication

Start Date:

As soon as possible. New remote assistant manager will be trained and overseen by current remote assistant manager for up to 3 months.
