The CityTeam @ Work Specialist is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our Learning and Career Center at CityTeam Oakland. The CityTeam @ Work Specialist must have high expectations and believe all students can learn. The CityTeam @ Work Specialist is responsible for managing the classroom environment, student behavior, and processes. Most importantly, the CityTeam @ Work Specialist will stay on top of student progress and motivate students as they work through their Education and Career Development Plans. The CityTeam @ Work Specialist will need to be adept at communicating with people from a variety of backgrounds and be comfortable working with those who are impoverished, struggling with substance abuse, and re-entry. No two days are ever the same, so we are looking for someone who can pivot quickly and handle conflict in a Christ-like manner. We are expanding our programs, so our ideal candidate will take initiative, be flexible in the unknown, and do whatever it takes to help the team. You will report directly to the CityTeam @ Work Director, but you will work in cooperation with the entire Oakland team under the authority of the Executive Director of CityTeam Oakland to support the students’ overall program goals.
The CityTeam @ Work Specialist is a full-time non-exempt position. 1. Oversee Learning & Career Center processes, workflows, training, and tutoring of students, including goal setting, action items, and specific tasks related to creating the student’s Education & Career Development Plan (ECDP). Advise students about their academics, as they relate to their employment goals. 2. Model and hold students accountable for appropriate classroom behavior, including arriving on time, coming prepared, participating in class discussions, staying on task, and respecting and supporting others’ learning. 3. Prepare students to take the high school equivalency exam and assist students with college readiness, applications, financial aid, etc. 4. Ensure all students understand the wide variety of vocational skills training and resources available through CityTeam @ Work. 5. Assist students in attaining proficiency and professionalism in job search strategies, including addressing and overcoming employment barriers, interview techniques, personal branding, and written materials including resumes, applications, and cover letters. 6. Find and take students to appropriate career fairs and vocational orientations, connect them with potential employers, provide referrals, support, and job placement services. 7. Research and build mutually beneficial partnerships with businesses and union trades. Network with outside agencies, colleges, and organizations to maximize available resources. 8. Collaborate with the Oakland CityTeam staff and the San Jose CityTeam @ Work team to coordinate appropriate services and transfer flow for all of the students in our programs. 9. Efficiently use Google Drive and other Google G-Suite apps for daily use and to create, track, and report data. 10. May support CityTeam San Jose and San Francisco programs as directed by the CityTeam @ Work Director. 11. Manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and intelligently delegate. 12. Advocate on behalf of CityTeam to your circles of influence. 13. Special projects and additional tasks as assigned by the Director of CityTeam @ Work.

Required Education and Experience ● Career Development, Career Coaching, or Career Counseling experience ● Associate Degree or equivalent experience in related field ● Minimum 3-years of professional work experience ● Proficiency conducting online research, preparing presentations, and speaking to large or small groups ● Computer literate and proficient with all aspects of Google G-Suite apps and Microsoft Office Suite ● Experience with curriculum development and the ability to maximize resources by individualizing content for each student’s needs ● Outstanding command of the English language, especially writing professional documents and business correspondence ● Valid CA Driver’s License with a clean record
Preferred Education and Experience ● 4-year degree ● Familiarity with college admission processes, applications, and financial aid ● Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS) ● Teaching experience ● Bilingual
