Job Description

Rehema for Kids [RFK] (Rehema means “Mercy” in Swahili) is a faith-based Christian 501c3 nonprofit organization that creates awareness and raises funds for programs that rescue and give new life to abused and abandoned children in Kenya. The offices of RFK are located in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State.

We are looking for an experienced executive director with a passion for children and non-profit work who will serve as the key management leader of RFK. The person filling this position works with the RFK board of directors, staff and volunteers to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and fund raising.


Organization Mission and Strategy:  Works with board, staff and volunteers to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs and strategic planning.

  • Responsible for strategic planning to ensure that RFK can successfully fulfill its Mission.
  • Responsible for establishing, revising, and implementing a fund development plan to assure the financial sustainability of the organization.
  • Responsible to ensure the smooth flow of communication between the boards and staff of RFK and In-Step Foundation.  

Staff supervision:

  • Responsible for the hiring, development, and retention of competent, qualified staff.


Board collaboration: Works with board in order to fulfill the organization’s mission.

  • Responsible for leading RFK in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board of Directors and the Articles of Incorporation.
  • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.


Face of the organization to the community:

  • Responsible for ongoing & increasing visibility of RFK to the Tri-Cities, Skagit County and throughout the United States, where current supporters and other opportunities present themselves.
  • Responsible for nurturing ongoing relationships with donors outside the Tri-Cities.


  • Enforce employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the organization. Periodically evaluate current policies and propose improvements to increase effectiveness and efficiency of office operations.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
  • Be the point leader for strategic planning and implementation.
  • Serve as RM’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, InStep Foundation, the media, and the general public.
  • Communicate in a timely, transparent, effective, helpful, and friendly way, with all

donors, staff, board leadership, committees, partners, vendors, volunteers, churches,

businesses, and the public.

  • Assist the Board of Directors in preparing agenda and materials for board meetings.
  • Manage workflow of employees, communicate with staff, inspire/recognize staff, conduct performance reviews of subordinate employees.
  • Initiates weekly communication with In-Step Foundation leadership for ministry status, encouragement, and efficiencies.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

Financial Oversight:

  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and consultants to implement an annual strategic fund development plan and calendar-- ensuring the plan’s goals, objectives and tactics are achieved.
  • Receive Grant Requests from ISF and ensure they are distributed to the Board of

Directors for review and approval.

  • Plan and oversee the annual budget, in collaboration with the Finance Committee.
  • Research and apply for grant funding.
  • Ensure monthly donor and campaign reports are provided to the Fund Development

Committee and the Board of Directors.

  • Responsible for signing all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into and on behalf of the organization, as approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Assist the Board of Directors with development and implementation of capital campaigns.

Required and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Must exemplify excellent leadership qualities.
  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Must be comfortable working independently and in a team environment
  • Must be loyal, dependable, and trustworthy.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related area, is required.
  • Five or more years senior management/non-profit management experience, is required.
  • Must be a self-starter, fast learner, have a teachable spirit, and be readily adaptable to

changing priorities.

  • Must be solution driven and take the initiative to collaborate and solve problems.
  • Must have advanced computer literacy and be highly fluent in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and/or be willing to learn the skills necessary to work efficiently and effectively with these programs as needed.
  • Must have analytical expertise and consistent accuracy when working with databases.
  • Prefer understanding/experience with QuickBooks.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to the mission of Rehema for Kids.
  • Model the organization’s core values and respect the organization’s Christian heritage or statement of faith.
