The Worship Pastor will be a musically gifted and spiritually mature man called by God to worship ministry. He will humbly and confidently lead the congregation into God-honoring corporate response of worship during the services at Village Church of Gurnee under the direction of the Lead Pastor. The Worship Pastor will lead and shepherd worship teams, overseeing the planning and execution each week in order to serve the purpose of Village Church’s worship ministry as articulated in the Village Church’s Statement of Corporate Worship.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
Plan weekly worship services (music, prayer, scripture) in coordination with the Lead Pastor.
Provide leadership in the creation, coordination and execution of weekly worship services.
Draw people into worship by responding to God’s revelation to experience His presence.
Lead the musical portion of worship services.
Plan and schedule the necessary team support for worship services (e.g. vocal, instrumental, etc.), including band accompaniment for choir.
Coordinate and direct rehearsals with appropriate music ministry and technical teams.
Recruit, shepherd, and encourage musicians, vocalists, and worship leaders and discern skill sets for worship team members and help them use their gifts accordingly.
Train and develop a team of volunteer worship leaders.
Manage the worship ministry budget.
Serve in other responsibilities as directed by the Lead Pastor.
Job Skills and Requirements:
Evidence of a vibrant and mature relationship with Jesus Christ; visible passion for God; exhibits exemplary Christian character.
High degree of musical literacy and training (vocally and instrumentally) required.
Music or ministry degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
Holds to a ministry philosophy compatible with the ministry vision and strategy of Village Church, including our Statement of Faith.
Minimum of 3 years experience leading a worship ministry in a similar capacity, including adult worship ministry with worship bands and vocalists
Ability to draw the church into corporate worship as a response to who God is and what God has said as revealed in Scripture.
Exercise discretion and good judgment in personal contacts and communication (e.g., social media).
Solid interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively with staff and volunteers.
Experience overseeing multiple worship teams and directing rehearsals.
Demonstrate professionalism through appearance, attitude and interactions with others.
Ability to learn and use scheduling software.
Ability to construct and celebrate a blended service in musical style and worship elements.
Exemplify significant knowledge of technical dynamics to oversee the tech staff.
