Live In House Staff

  • ESTHER Homes
  • Eden Prairie, MN, USA
Full time House Parent

Job Description

ESTHER Homes Employment Opportunity

Full-Time House Staff

Location : ESTHER Homes Eden Prairie or St Paul House

Job Title : House Staff (Full-Time)

Length of Employment : 2 years

Purpose of Job:

ESTHER Homes exists to come alongside pregnant women and single mothers experiencing homelessness or crisis by providing transitional housing and access to resources for family stability within a community of support. Women and children have their own room in a shared home for up to two years with access to live-in staff support while they acquire job training and work experience, further education, save money, grow as mothers, and work towards long-term housing.

ESTHER Homes operates two locations in St. Paul and Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Two staff members live and office out of each location, providing direct support to families and carrying out other roles to support the growth of a nonprofit organization. House staff support each mother that enters the home through their example of showing up with intentionality, and by providing accountability and advocacy.

Job Description:

House staff come alongside each family in a unique way: your primary role is simply to be present. House staff intentionally step into life-on-life community living: you will be a present, supportive, and encouraging figure in the home for families and staff alike. This role provides stability for families and accountability to reach goals and learn life skills. House staff are available to provide a listening ear, advice, and mentorship.

The House Staff role is relational but also requires daily tasks to be fulfilled. These include but are not limited to:

● Hold weekly meetings with families to set goals and overcome barriers

● Provide leadership and coordination for weekly house nights to create community and teach life skills

● Engage volunteers to expand families’ community of support

● Refer families to resources that support long-term goals

● Assist with supportive gap services like transportation and crisis child-care

● Problem-solve in moments of crisis

● Perform administrative tasks: contribute to staff meetings, maintain files and documentation

● Provide house management and maintain program guidelines

This position is salaried with housing provided; house staff live at one ESTHER Homes location alongside families in our program. You are encouraged to be involved in activities outside of the home to create healthy patterns to maintain relationships and habits with things outside of ESTHER Homes. This requires good communication with other staff and establishing boundaries with families so that you can have time for yourself.

An ideal ESTHER Homes candidate has:

● Completed a degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in housing, maternal and child health, social work, fundraising, or a related field

● Knowledge of trauma and its impacts through prior training, education, work or personal experience

● Ability to initiate tasks and projects, work independently, and follow-through on commitments in a dynamic work environment

● Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

● Personal experience with housing instability or homelessness

● Interest or desire to live in an intentional shared community

● Access to a reliable personal vehicle and valid driver’s license
