Founded in 1985, New Covenant Christian School is an educational ministry of New Covenant Christian Church. Our Pre-K to 12 institution, with three locations in the Bronx, is a place where students of all backgrounds can learn, grow, and develop in a Christ-centered environment with a commitment to excellence. We seek a part-time professional to serve as a physical education teacher, serving our three campuses, with an August 2019 start date. The part-time position is for 20 hours or less per week and requires at least a 3 hour commitment 5 days a week. The following is general description of the duties, subject to finalization upon hire.
Plan a program of study designed to meet the School's educational goals and that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual, or team sports,
Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge’s, and strategies of formal sports, games rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups as assigned.
Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the over-all safety of students.
Works in conjunction with classroom teacher in developing life-long health and fitness activities.
Assist in the selection of equipment and other instructional materials.
Performs other duties as assigned.
A strong candidate for this position will:
Be a born-again Christian and belong to a church professing the Christian faith.
Possess a degree or certificate in the field of physical education, or otherwise be experienced in the field of physical education.
Have at least 1 year of teaching experience in an elementary or secondary school.
Demonstrate sensitivity toward staff, parent, volunteers, and children, and an ability to interact effectively with them.
Use acceptable English in written and oral communication.
Respectfully submit and be loyal to constituted authority.
Place his or her school ministry ahead of other jobs or volunteer activities.
Maintain a personal appearance that is a Christian role model of cleanliness, modesty, and good taste consistent with school policy.
Compensation: $15 per hour.
