Education Coordinator/Principal, Bethel Christian Academy

Since 1954 Bethel Bible Village has provided safe, nurturing and Christ-centered homes for children of families in crisis. Bethel Christian Academy (BCA) is a non-public Christian college preparatory school, providing a smaller classroom environment for students. We are located on the campus of Bethel Bible Village.

Bethel is currently seeking a candidate to fill the position of Education Coordinator/Principal. This position serves as the administrator of Bethel Christian Academy (BCA) and is responsible for staff supervision and developing and implementing program components, curriculum, and activities in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.

Qualifications:

  • Spiritual: Be an active participating Christian in a local congregation.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of educational experience required; 2 or more years of team or administrative leadership required; Current TN teaching certification/license required; Master’s degree in an education-related field preferred.
  • Specific Skills: Knowledge and experience in education administration and team leadership. Experience working with Middle and High School-aged-youth who may have academic, behavioral, and relational concerns is preferred. Culturally sensitive to children of various socioeconomic backgrounds and understands traumatic impacts in the school environment. Excellent interpersonal and relational skills with the ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people. Exceptional communication skills both in public speaking and written communication. Experience or leadership of AdvancEd/SACS accreditation is highly preferable. Experience with NWEA assessments. Development and grant writing/management experience preferable but not required. Experience with Title I funds management.
  • License: Must have a current license to teach in TN. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Other Requirements: Applicant must be lawfully authorized to work in the U.S., and successfully pass a background check, drug screen, and physical.

Essential Functions:

  • Exemplify a vibrant Christian faith personally and professionally. The individual fulfilling this role will protect the credibility of the Bethel Bible Village mission by complying with the Bethel Bible Village Code of Conduct and Employee Covenant, setting an example, in words and actions that is consistent with the values and beliefs of Bethel Bible Village.
  • Provide spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership to enable the school to fulfill its mission to provide an excellent education and to equip and inspire youth to live productive Christian lives.
  • Coordinate all off-campus educational needs of students. The duties required for Educational Coordinator include but are not limited to the setup and enrollment of K-12, college prep, college enrollment, and any educational intervention required.
  • Possess exceptional oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team to meet the emotional, behavioral, educational, and relational needs of the students and families we serve.
  • Comfortable and effective presenting to and interacting with teams and community professionals to interpret BCA’s unique program and impacts to the community.
  • Serve as liaison and team player between the other necessary sections of the overall ministry, of which the school is one part.
  • Conceptualize the broad goals of the school and plans accordingly to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out an effective educational program.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws related to operating a private school including staying current with latest trends and standards in education at the local, state, and national level.
  • Responsible for maintaining accreditation for BCA.
  • Exercise creativity and sound judgment in exploring new ways to be at the cutting edge of services to children and their families using best practices.
  • Provide supervision and leadership to all school personnel. Define the responsibilities of staff members, conduct performance evaluations, and conduct regular classroom observations.
  • Coordinate activities and trainings which facilitate the professional growth of the school staff members and enhance the quality of the educational program. Ensure that instructional objectives for a given subject and/or classroom are developed and involves the faculty and others in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the school program and the requirements of the state.
  • Evaluate student progress and strive to increase impacts and educational attainment by students utilizing the NWEA MAP assessment. Maintain up-to-date student data.
  • Facilitate organizational efficiency by maintaining inter-school system communication and seeking assistance from other team members to improve performance. Maintain positive working relationships with students, educational team, social workers, House Parents, parents/guardians, community partners, and all Bethel administrative staff.
  • Encourage the collaboration with other community programs, agencies, and resources. Schedule field trips and educational opportunities. Cooperate with the use of school facilities.
  • Support development efforts to raise funds to operate the school by serving as host for tours, spokesperson for BCA, involving volunteers when possible, and demonstrating effective outcomes for its students.
  • Coordinate extra-curricular, after school, volunteer, school initiatives, and enrichment activities and opportunities.
  • Develop and coordinate summer enrichment and school break activities.
  • Responsible for maintaining up-to-date records on materials, supplies and equipment necessary to carry out the daily school routine. Responsible for recognition events such as fall and spring commencement ceremonies, awards, and milestone events.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
