To further the mission of NewStory Church by providing Spirit-led leadership, vision- casting, preaching and teaching, community engagement, and administrative oversight.
Spirit-Led Leadership: The Lead Pastor must first and foremost be a follower of the Holy Spirit, as demonstrated by Jesus Christ. This cannot be lip service, but is vital within the daily life of our pastor. Perfection is not the goal nor the expectation, but intentionality, consistency and authenticity is. The Lead Pastor must know how to connect with God through their own personal devotions, spiritual disciplines, and Sabbath rhythms.
Vision-Casting: The Lead Pastor receives the overall vision for NewStory and clearly communicates this vision to the church. This is accomplished through preaching, facilitating weekly/quarterly leadership meetings, organizational planning to help the Church reach its goals, and creative initiatives.
Preaching & Teaching: The Lead Pastor is responsible for planning the Sunday preaching team every weekend. The Lead Pastor does not have to preach every Sunday – a team approach with occasional guests is preferred. The Lead Pastor, however, is responsible for curating the teaching series for the year, planning at least 3 months in advance for the next ministry season.
Community Engagement: The Lead Pastor of NewStory Church is called to not only pastor a church on Sunday, but to pastor the Edgewater (Uptown, Rogers Park, Andersonville) neighborhood throughout the week. The Lead Pastor is responsible for establishing relationships with key community stakeholders (such as the Alderman, the Chambers of Commerce, Swift School, etc.), in an effort to remain aware of issues facing the community and devise synergistic activities that address these issues and demonstrate Christ’s love for everyone.
Administrative Oversight: Due to the size of NewStory, the Lead Pastor must be able to carry out administrative tasks as well as the oversight of administrative tasks. Teams have been put into place to carry out some of these tasks but the Lead Pastor is responsible to make sure this work is effectively delegated and accomplished.
