Job Description

Harvest Bible Chapel St Louis was planted in August 2007. We are a community of followers of Jesus Christ that exists to glorify God through the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) in the spirit of the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:37-40). We are actively networking with other autonomous elder-governed churches committed to faithfully implementing the Four Pillars:


  1. Proclaiming the authority of God’s Word without apology. (2 Timothy 4:2)
  2. Lifting high the name of Jesus Christ in worship. (John 12:32, John 4:24)
  3. Believing firmly in the power of prayer. (James 5:16b, Ephesians 6:18)
  4. Sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with boldness. (Ephesians 6:19-20)


Position Title:               Pastor/Director of Worship

Employment Status:     Part-time

Time commitment:       18 hours per week

Compensation:                         Commensurate with experience and education


Spiritual Qualifications & Character:

The Worship Leader will:

  • Have a clear testimony of faith in Christ and a passionate, growing, personal relationship with Him
  • Have a verifiable history of moral purity and willingness to be accountable in this area of life
  • Possess the spiritual gifts of leadership (Romans 12:8) and administration (1 Corinthians 12:28).
  • Meet the biblical qualifications for an overseer (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9)
  • Be a self-motivated initiator, self-starter, able to administrate, lead and instruct others
  • Be a team player with a positive attitude, able to recruit, train and shepherd volunteers
  • Have an exemplary work ethic, be teachable, willing to go beyond requirements
  • Be passionate about lifting high the name of Jesus in worship
  • Committed to building enduring relationships with the Sr. Pastor and Harvest Staff Team
  • Willingness to advance toward ordination as a full-time Associate Pastor for Worship Ministry


Professional Qualifications: 

  • College degree (or working on one) preferred in a field related to the position; formal music training is a strong plus
  • Wholeheartedly embrace the doctrine, mission and worship philosophy of HBC
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a worship leader, church music or production director
  • Proven track of leadership; ability to set and meet deadlines; team player (no “silos” mentality)
  • Able to equip, instruct and multiply a team; teacher and shepherd (in the spirit of Ephesians 4:12)
  • Excellent skills at playing lead instrument(s) coupled with an above average vocal ability
  • Proficient in current sound and video technology, able to train volunteers and use audio-visual data for live stream
  • Able to create structure, cast vision, win people over and build organized ministry environment
  • Passionate about mentoring, able to develop relationships and encourage ministry members
  • Competent in arranging charts and producing other worship resources (music reading is a plus)


Responsibilities include:

  • Leading worship during worship services and church events, preparing accordingly with diligence
  • Leading weekly band/worship/ and audio-visual team rehearsals
  • Managing weekly worship team rotation schedule for ministry and maintaining advanced schedule communication with worship team members, including the Teach Team
  • Working closely with the Lead Pastor, other Staff and volunteers to prepare worship services
  • Helping to develop long-term ministry plan for worship, events and ministry training
  • Helping to prepare and manage an annual ministry budget setting measurable goals
  • Communicating vision and instruction to ministry members with love and clarity
  • Recruit, audition and incorporate new vocalists, instrumentalists, audio-visual media and communications volunteers upholding the Worship Guidelines of HBC

  • Be committed to a consistent and increasing level of passion for Jesus Christ in word, deed, and devotion, stimulating the “contagious element” within the church community
  • Nurture diligently relationships within the Senior Pastor and Staff team through good team work, encouragement, training, fellowship, prayer, participation and clear and direct communication.
  • Be committed to the 5 “P’s” of Harvest Staff: Pray, Plan, Privilege, Professional, Promote
  • Participate in in weekly staff prayer time and all scheduled staff meetings
  • Set an example to the team and church members in timeliness, attitude, hard work, tithing & giving, church attendance and small group discipleship
  • Willing to love God’s people and serve above and beyond specific areas to build the church community in the spirit of Hebrews 10:24
