Job Description

First Christian Methodist Evangelistic Church (FCMEC) is seeking to hire a Senior Pastor with leadership gifts, administrative skills, and vision for growth.  An individual who provides spiritual, pastoral, outreach, and servant leadership; wants to be in ministry to God’s people; and has a passion for maturing believers in Christ.

 First Christian Methodist Evangelistic Church has roots in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church.  It was formed in 1989 under the leadership of Reverend Gene E. Burt.  It shares the Wesleyan heritage in terms of history, polity, and beliefs.

Professional Qualifications

 Commitment to adhere to FCMEC’s Book of Discipline (mission statement, policies, and doctrines).

 Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and in public presentations.

 Possession of strengths in administrative leadership, delegating, vision casting, and supervising   staff and volunteers.

 Ability to develop 3-5 year long range plans for membership, financial, and spiritual growth.

 Ability to work with a team, support church ministry leaders, and equip leaders for the work of   ministry.

 Exceptional moral values; commitment to integrity; strong pastoral ethics; a good personal and   professional reputation as a leader.

 Licensed and/or ordained; the Methodist tradition preferred.

 Advanced Seminary degree (Master of Divinity, Master of Theology, or higher), from a school   accredited by the Association of Theological Schools; will consider equivalent experience.

 Three to five years of experience as an Associate or Senior Pastor in managing a staff and leading congregations with weekly attendance of 100 persons or more.

 

 Responsibilities

 Provide leadership for all worship services

  • Prepare and deliver theologically informed and socially relevant sermons
  • Work with Minister of Music, associate ministers, and Worship team
  • Provide a preaching schedule that includes associate ministers and guests
  • Ensure that worship services consider diversity in age and spiritual maturity.

Provide leadership in pastoral care

  • Offer spiritual care in conjunction with other church leaders through visitation, counseling, and prayer
  • Offer personal, pre-marital, marital, crisis and conflict resolution counseling.
  • Offer pastoral services in times of loss and in marriage celebrations.

Facilitate opportunities for ministry participation

  • Empower and support the church staff and volunteers in collaborative ministry
  • Offer advanced training for all ministry leaders
  • Develop, in partnership, wider community outreach ministries
  • Provide support for leadership of scheduled prayer meetings, Christian educational studies, and Children and Youth Ministry.
  • Meet regularly with ministers and church staff

 

Accountability

The Pastor is accountable, first and foremost to God and God’s Word, and secondly, to the Board of Stewards and the Stewardess Board, and the membership of First Christian Methodist Evangelistic Church.

The Senior Pastor is expected to keep consistent office hours from Monday through Thursday.

The Senior Pastor is expected to participate in continuing education opportunities.

The Senior Pastor is expected to attend Official Board and Church Conference meetings on a monthly basis.

The Senior Pastor submits a Monthly Activity Report at each Church Conference.
