The Guidance Counselor oversees preventative/educational presentations in the classrooms, managing/counseling secondary students on academic probation, and personal Biblical counseling as requested by families, administration and/or students. He/she will also facilitate testing and postsecondary planning for the high school students together with their parents.
A Master’s Degree in counseling preferred (or related field)
Preferred classes and/or trainings in Biblically counseling teens
Experience working with secondary students
Ability to clearly communicate to parents, students, and colleges
Demonstrates a reasonable level of computer literacy, having a basic proficiency in doing word processing, e-mailing, and accessing the internet.
A Christian with a consistent testimony among his/her family and peers.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR PERSONAL BIBLICAL COUNSELING:
Biblically counsel students in a confidential manner with personal issues they may be facing and intervene when needed in both school and personal life.
Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program on the basis of his/her academic training in school counseling, input from the administration and staff, and perceived student needs.
Assist the Secondary Dean of Students in providing help and counseling to students on a Behavior Management Plan.
Assist in student referrals to special services as needed.
Demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, kindness, self-control, perseverance and punctuality.
Meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism.
Develop and maintain rapport with students, parents and staff by treating others with friendliness, dignity and consideration.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES FOR CAREER GUIDANCE COUNSELING:
Accepts responsibility for the development and implementation of guidance services at AIS.
Makes arrangements and prepares for PSAT, MAP and AP testing and helps interpret the results to students. Assists the students in preparing to take these. Distributes results to respective students and parents.
Conducts informational meetings to parents for testing and college selection and preparation.
Informs and helps students to register for the SAT/ACT and other college entrance tests.
Counsels students regarding college selection, college admissions and financial aid.
Sends transcripts to colleges as requested.
Writes college recommendations as requested.
Counsels and assist students with personal and academics problems (while keeping the school’s administration informed of developing needs or issues).
Keeps the college catalog and information file current and accessible.
Keeps updated helps on MAP/SAT/PSAT/TOEFL preparation.
Creates and facilitates College Fairs and recruiter visits as opportunities arise.
Other duties as assigned by the administrative team.

Keep information confidential and request the same of colleagues and families and yet make the appropriate referral breaking confidential to the secondary principal for safety related issues (abuse, suicide, desire to harm others, etc.)

Strive to understand the local culture and demonstrate cultural sensitivity to the local and AIS community.
