Objectives: To oversee the children’s and youth ministries of Osco Community Church (from cradle to college). To equip parents to lead their children spiritually. To help foster cross-generational discipleship relationships in OCC.

Ministry Relationships: The Associate Pastor/Director* of Family Ministries is a full time, salaried position which is part of the ministry staff, a member of the elder board*, and reports directly to the Senior Pastor.
*Dependent on gender of candidate.
Exhibits the fruit of the Spirit and a mature, growing, abiding relationship with Jesus and knowledge of God’s Word.
Regular practice of spiritual disciplines and is a person of prayer.
Character of integrity that reflects the spiritual qualifications for pastors/elders in the church (1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:5-9).
Strong relationship skills. Places a priority on relational ministry with a passion for discipleship and the gospel.
Maintains personal priorities with home and family as a spiritual leader.
Fully embraces the mission and core values of OCC, is willing to abide by the constitution and by-laws of OCC and be led by its elders.
Demonstrates an ability to understand and connect relationally with children, youth, and parents and a passion to see families grow in their faith together.
Ability to recruit, equip, and lead volunteer teams.
Proven ability to develop and implement ministry strategy. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Good teaching ability and communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to work well with other ministry staff, the elder board, and ministry leaders.
Is reliable, takes initiative, and is self-motivated.
Uses appropriate judgment in the areas of discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
A willingness and ability to pioneer new things and inspire others to new initiatives.
3-5 years experience in youth or children’s ministry preferred.
Experience in raising a family would be an asset.
Bible College or Seminary degree preferred.
Provide leadership, training, support, prayer, and oversight to all children’s and youth ministry volunteers, parents, and participants.
Help build a discipling culture among children, youth, parents, and leaders.
Consistent with Ephesians 4:11-16, recruit and equip a team of volunteers and teachers in youth and children ministries that leads to sustainability in these ministry areas (not dependent on paid staff), working primarily with the ministry team leaders in the various areas (Youth Group Sunday evenings, Sunday school, Awana, Children’s church, VBS). Assist ministry team leaders in coordinating schedules and making sure all gaps are filled.
Directly oversee Jr./Sr. high school youth program, being a part of the teaching rotation and coordinating events. Develop clear goals related to characteristics of spiritually mature disciples each student should possess by the time they graduate. Create a purposeful plan each year of how we will target and grow each quality in the students through teaching, discipleship, activities, and events.
Create a safe environment for children and youth that encourages growth in spiritual maturity. Assist with establishing and maintaining OCC discipline plan.
Encourage and equip parents in their role as primary disciplers of their children. Support them in teaching and mentoring their children in a life of following Christ. Be available for counseling and pastoral care as needed, especially in regard to family relationships, issues, and transitions. Teach (or work with others to teach) an adult Sunday school class one quarter a year on a family ministry related topic (ex: parenting, marriage, discipleship/worship in the home, etc.).
Develop an effective flow of communication to children, youth, and parents. Schedule periodic parent meetings in order to communicate plans and hear feedback and input.
Integrate youth and children into the larger church community. Help foster an “extended family” atmosphere where all ages are valued and contribute. Create and encourage inter-generational opportunities for the youth and children to serve, worship, learn, and be mentored in the greater context of the church at-large.
Research and propose curriculum for children and youth ministries. Ensure that the curriculum used at each level of spiritual development connects to the next.
Develop and maintain a strategy for reaching and assimilating new children and families.
Be involved in the community, seeking out relationships with those who do not know Christ. Attend occasional sporting events, performances and social events of OCC youth.
Develop the children and youth ministry budget and track expenditures throughout the year.
General Leadership and Administration
Serve on the church staff team, helping to provide overall direction and administration for Osco Community Church. Assist the Senior Pastor in a variety of other ministry areas with other duties as assigned.
Maintain regular office hours (with some ministry flexibility) and availability for general church staff responsibilities. Maintain good communication, cooperation, and coordination with staff, elder board, and the congregation at large.
Participate in the planning and leadership of regular church services and gatherings as designated by Senior Pastor. Participate in and contribute to various church-wide endeavors.
Preach on an occasional basis (3-6 times a year).* Fill in various pastoral duties in the absence of the Senior Pastor.
Attend weekly staff meetings, bi-monthly elder meetings*, and other meetings as required.
Option to pursue gifts and interests in other areas of ministry upon approval by the Senior Pastor.
