The purpose of the Children’s and Youth Director position is to develop leadership, relationships, programs and resources that enable students, grades Pre-school--12, to grow and serve in a life-giving relationship with Christ and the Christian community.


The Children’s and Youth Director  is a person with: a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, a “youth seeker” sensitive heart and calling, a love of the Scriptures, a passion for the worship and mission of God, integrity, a vision for ministry in accord with the mission of Osseo UMC, a team spirit, spiritual maturity and character consistent with Biblical descriptions of leadership.


Osseo UMC is a community of believers within the United Methodist Church seeking to serve our community as we connect others to Jesus Christ.


We are a church of 125 in weekly worship and approximately 15 children and 30 youth active in weekly ministries.

THE PURPOSE of the Children’s and Youth Director position  is to develop leadership, relationships, programs and resources that enable students, grades Pres-school--12, to grow and serve in a life-giving relationship with Christ and the Christian community.



RESPONSIBLE … for the overall organization and implementation of Children’s and Youth Ministries.


The Children’s and Youth Director may perform, but not be limited to, the following tasks:


  • Deliver high quality educational, fellowship, worship and service experiences for children and youth, so that children/youth and their families may become life-long followers of Jesus Christ (Sunday School, Vacation Bible School,

  • Guide the selection of relevant curriculum for children and youth that teach biblical truths appropriate for various age levels.

  • Establish an environment that allows children, youth, and parents to feel loved, safe and free to have fun under a watchful, caring cadre of leaders.

  • Cast vision and actively recruit, motivate and develop volunteers with the goal of connecting and building relationships with children/youth, as well as equipping and engaging youth and parents.

  • Develop a team of volunteers (teachers, mentors, leaders, and care-givers)

  • Grow attendance by creating and implementing a strategy of goals and objectives.

  • Influence parents and help equip them to be leaders of their child’s spiritual development.

  • Provide pastoral care and direction for children, students, parents, and other attendees.

  • Coordinate and facilitate weekly and monthly forms of communication to youth and the church. Utilize multiple forms of social media and church communications.

  • Develop and manage a yearly budget for youth ministries.

  • Attends necessary staff, team and committee meetings.

  • Assist in fundraising for programs when needed.

  • Completes other tasks as may be agreed upon with Staff, PPRC, Youth Council and Children’s Committee.

  • Bachelor ’s degree in Education, Youth Ministry, Bible. Or demonstrates life experience equivalency.

  • Proven, successful experience in Children’s, Youth or Family Ministry, desired.

  • Knowledgeable about adolescent spiritual, social and emotional development, including fluent understanding of youth culture.

  • Proficient in building relationships and networks among both youth and adults.

  • Values team ministry with a servant heart.

  • Adept in applying communication skills: open-minded listening, supportive, understanding.

  • Exercises effective and efficient administrative and organizational skill.

  • Knowledgeable of and experienced with technology and social media

  • Great communicator. Willing to learn the art of teaching.

  • Continuous learner, especially in the field of student and family ministry.

  • Ability to think and work strategically: goal setting and implementation.

·Acceptable results of criminal background check.  



Full time, flexible, including weekends as necessary to fulfill the vision, mission and strategy of children’s and youth ministry.

1. Is accountable to the Senior Pastor and the Pastor Parish Relations Committee

2. Works with the guidance of the Pastor Parish Relations Comm., Staff, Children’s Ministry and Youth Council.

3. Is a member of Staff, Youth Council, and Children’s Ministry.
