Responsible to ensure that the needs of program participants are met i.e. physically, emotionally, medically, and behaviorally
Plan and facilitate a variety of leisure activities and community outings (appropriate to age, skill level and
and interests) which provide opportunities to promote inclusion in the community.
Report any identified needs to team members, Program Supervisor and/or On-Call designate and usual caregiver.
Advocate on the behalf of the program participants to promote health and well-being.
Follow through on all treatment programs (as applicable), all personal care routines and routines of daily living.
Liaise with parent, caregivers, and community partners as required.
Perform house maintenance duties as outlined under shift responsibilities.
Ensure proper recording in shift change book, anecdotal, incident reports, restraint forms, etc.
Perform other position related duties as required.
Currently enrolled in post-secondary studies relating to Social Services/ Human Services or Developmental Service Worker.
A minimum of three (3) months of previous work experience in a social services setting and some experience in providing direct care to children or adults who have intellectual disabilities; dealing with crises is required.
Strong oral and written communication skills
Self-motivated and disciplined.
Current First Aid & CPR Training
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention would be a definite asset.
Safeguards Respite Certificate Course on-line training preferred.
Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs.
Valid Ontario class “G” Driver’s license, with a an current original copy of driver’s abstract which is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is preferred.
Provide an original copy of a Criminal Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
Screen through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry is required.
Fluent French verbal & written communication skills an asset
Required to have a health assessment and immunization
An understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a temporary full time summer student position based on 30 to 40 hours per week.
Start Date: Approximately June 2018 End date: September 2, 2018
* Some flexibility in scheduling may be required.
* Shifts include days, afternoons and weekends.
SALARY: $15.00 per hour
