Maintain constant surveillance of the participants in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure everyone’s safety in the event of emergency.
Provide first aid treatment as required.
Present professional appearance and attitude at all times, and maintain a high standard of customer service; responds to participant questions and concerns in a friendly manner.
Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility.
Inspect the pool area and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the Program Director of the Day Nursery or Property Manager.
Complete testing of pool chemicals and remedies any infractions.
Prepare and maintain appropriate and necessary activity reports.
Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
Responsible for pool closures when required.
When the pool is not in use will support other Village programs (Child Care, Adult Day Program, Respite)
Attend any community outings with the summer programs as requested.
Attend any visits/inspections by the Middlesex London Public Health Inspectors.
Communicate non-compliance issues from Inspection Reports with the Property Manager/Program Director of the Day Nursery.
Other position related duties as required.
Completed Secondary School
Minimum of six (6) months experience as a lifeguard
Current National Life Guard Service Certification
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork
Knowledge of CPR and emergency medical procedures
Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures
Certified in First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
Sound knowledge of pool operations and current guarding techniques
Experience working with seniors, children, and individuals with special needs is an asset.
Ability to lift/move 50 lbs.
Thorough knowledge of water chemistry, filtration and recreation facility maintenance
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry may be required.
Fluent French verbal & written communication skills an asset
Required to have a health assessment and immunization
Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada

This is a temporary, full time position based on 44 hours per week for 10 weeks. Shifts as per posted schedule during the hours of operation - Monday to Saturday, includes days, afternoons, evenings; weekend work and split shifts. Includes unpaid meal breaks where applicable. The supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule. Some flexibility in scheduling may be required.
