Kitchen Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY

Chester Cityteam is looking for a Kitchen Supervisor who is passionate about food and serving in ministry. The new Kitchen Supervisor will be an integral part of our Recovery Team, whose mission it is to, “share Christ’s unconditional and redemptive love with the least among us by caring for their immediate needs and empowering them to embrace lasting solutions.”

Cityteam serves three meals a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. It is the responsibility of the Kitchen Supervisor to make sure we have the volunteers, food, and supplies necessary to feed those in need. This may include picking up donations. On Saturday evenings, we have the pleasure of hosting guests to Hope Café, a restaurant style dinner service which includes a worship service. A lot of work goes into our Recovery Team, and the Kitchen Supervisor is a big part of this ministry.

The Kitchen Supervisor will oversee all aspects of the kitchen and dining room, including food storage, menu planning, food preparation, safety, and service. As the Kitchen Supervisor, you will oversee and train program clients and volunteers. The Kitchen Supervisor will work in conjunction with the Rescue & Recovery Program Manager to develop curriculum to teach lifeskills and help train clients for careers in the food industry.  Our ideal candidate will have experience working in ministry teaching and or coaching. The Kitchen Supervisor will need to be able to work independently and with others, always keeping safety a top priority. The ideal candidate will have a heart for service, experience planning menus in the food service industry, and have a miniumum of 2-years experience working in a commercial kitchen.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ministry

  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and efficient environment in all food service areas.
  • Train and direct all kitchen staff in food service operations including food preparation, serving, and clean-up.
  • Provide a hospitable, service-oriented environment, modeling a positive example and tone with all staff and volunteers.
  • Teach and coach residents.
  • Initiate corrective actions with clients as needed, and involve the Rescue & Recovery Program Manager as necessary.
  • Inform the Rescue & Recovery Program Manager of any equipment or facility repair needs.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly Team Meetings.
  • Desire and develop grace-filled communication with all Cityteam staff, especially the Recovery Program Team.
  • Recruit, schedule, and train volunteers for all aspects of Hope Café.
  • Identify and develop Lead Volunteers.
  • Pick up donations as necessary.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Rescue & Recovery Program Manager and City Director.
  • Advocate for Cityteam with those in your circles of influence.
  • Menu Planning

  • Plan and review menus according to budget and donations.
  • Ordering, Receiving, & Storage of Food

  • Order all supplies in a timely manner.
  • Submit all purchase orders and invoices on a weekly basis.
  • Receive orders personally or arrange for another designated person to receive them.
  • Maintain stock in a neat and organized manner.
  • Rotate stock regularly.
  • Food Preparation, Service, & Cleaning

  • Carry out all facets of food preparation and service in accordance with Pennsylvania Health Code standards.
  • Ensure that kitchen and dining room area are cleaned and sanitized according to Pennsylvania Health Code standards.
  • Maintain high food quality standards.
  • Budget

  • Operate within budget created with the Rescue & Recovery Program Manager.
  • Make recommendations and receive advance approval from Rescue & Recovery Program Manager for all equipment or food purchases beyond normal expenditures.

    Physical Demands

    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
    • Finger and hand dexterity to feel, handle, and operate objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms
    • Occasionally drive to pick up or drop off food
    • Must be able to read and follow standard recipes
    • Must be able to hear and follow oral directions
    • Must be able to work cooperatively and safely

    Required Education and Experience

    • 2-years experience in professional kitchen
    • Must possess an accredited Food Handler’s Certificate before starting employment
    • Must possess or be willing to obtain an accredited Manager’s National Certificate of  Completion (not just a Food Handler’s Certificate) within the first 30-days of employment
    • ServeSafe certification
    • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean record
    • No DUI within the past 10-years
    • Must meet the Cityteam driver requirements and pass the Cityteam driver’s test
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Collaboration skills
    • Customer service/client focus

    Preferred Education and Experience

    • College coursework
    • Culinary school
    • Supervisory experience
    • Pastoral teaching or coaching experience

    Work Conditions

    • This job operates in a professional kitchen, housed with equipment such as an oven, stove, dishwasher, slicer, steamer, mixer, and chef’s knives
    • The employee is frequently exposed to cold, heat, steam, fire, and noise
    • Frequently around wet, slippery floors or surfaces
    • Occasionally around chemicals
    • Days and hours of work are typically Tuesday-Friday from 10:00 am-6:30 pm and Saturdays from 10:30 am-7:00 pm, with occasional holidays, including Thanksgiving

    Additional Eligibility Qualifications for Cityteam Ministries

    • Must have an intimate, personal relationship with Jesus Christ
    • Must be active in a local Christian body of believers or at least pursuing community with other Christ-followers
    • Must have compatible theology on major issues of Cityteam's Statement of Faith
    • Must be committed to serving God and the body of Christ
