Covenant United Methodist Church is a vibrant church in North Austin seeking a highly qualified and dynamic Choir Director. The primary responsibility is supporting our overall traditional worship experience by creating a joyful, holy space where music more deeply connects an individual to God. This position works with the Senior Pastor, Praise Worship Leader and Worship Team to plan the order of worship and special services. The Director should show evidence of deep understanding of the gospel, passion for worshiping God, and commitment to helping others experience the love of Christ through music and liturgy. The ideal candidate will be sensitive to what makes worship effective and the ways people relate to God.
This is a part-time position, approximately 10 – 15 hours per week, with some flexibility in scheduling hours.
A lived and expressed relationship with Jesus Christ reflected in lifestyle choices, spiritual maturity and a dedication to personal development
Understanding of and ability to articulate a personal Christian faith within the Wesleyan tradition
Demonstrated skill vocally and instrumentally
Value diverse music styles and provide leadership appropriately
Demonstrated experience with vocal, instrumental, and keyboard music, tone, harmony, and hymnody
Demonstrated experience with media, video, drama and other elements of worship design
Demonstrated leadership and teaching ability with strong relational skills and a positive attitude
Previous experience in leading a choir
A degree in music is preferred.
Lead the 11:15 am traditional worship service each Sunday
Lead weekly adult choir rehearsals; recruit volunteers to staff choir as needed.
Lead special worship services during Advent, Christmas, Lent and Holy Week
Work with the Praise Worship Leader on blended worship services
Coordinate with the Handbell and Children’s Choir leaders
Attend weekly staff and worship planning meetings
Assist with music for funerals and memorial service as needed
Coordinate outreach through music for special events
Act as liaison to Austin Civic Wind Ensemble (ACWE) and other musical groups using the church as a rehearsal space
Work with audio visual team and church office on the creation of weekly services and bulletins
Grow a ministry focused on experiencing Christ and growing as disciples
Create an atmosphere where visitors are welcomed
Build relationships with congregants and being present and active in the life of the church
