Purpose: To lead congregational singing, to accompany the church choirs, ensembles or soloists and to support the worship service with appropriate musical selections.
Part Time: This position is a year round part-time job role.
Accountability: The Organist/Pianist is accountable to the Lead Pastor as head of staff, through the supervision of the Director of Music.
Job performance reviews will be conducted annually by the Pastor with the assistance of the Director of Music Ministry or their substitute. It is the churchs policy to conduct 30, 60 and 90 day job reviews following the initial hiring of an individual.
Degree in Keyboard, worship music or comparable experience
Demonstrated proficiency playing a wide variety of music
Demonstrated proficiency in accompanying choral music groups
Flexibility and collegiality working with pastoral team, conductor(s), soloists and other choral groups; a team player.
Vital faith in Christ
Passion to communicate faith in and through music
Coordinate with the Director of Music and the pastor leading each worship service in planning, preparing and playing music appropriate to the theme of each service of worship.
Prepare appropriate music for seasonal worship services including, but not limited to, Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday and three Christmas Eve Services.
Prepare sufficiently for optimum presentation on the organ and/or piano for rehearsals and services of worship.
Accompany rehearsals of the Chancel Choir. (Weekly on Wednesday evenings)
Lead the congregations singing of hymns, choruses and choral responses.
Accompany soloists and ensembles in worship services as needed.
Provide instrumental special music when needed.
Provide accompaniment for special gatherings of the church when available.
Play for funerals and weddings as available. (Compensation is typically paid by the families involved in the funeral or wedding.)
Provide appropriate substitutes for worship services or special church events when not available. (Compensation for the substitutes is paid by the church.)
