Ministry Division:  Family, Youth, and Children’s Ministries

Purpose of Position: The Kids’ Church Manager helps preschool and elementary students connect with God and learn to follow Jesus through Sunday morning worship at Kids’ Church. The Kids’ Church Manager leads many of the behind the scenes efforts that make Kids’ Church so fantastic every week. This flexible position will average 25 hours a week with day to day direction from the Director of Children’s Ministries and oversight from the Director of Family, Youth, and Children’s Ministries. This position is supported by the Children's Ministry Intern who she/he oversees. Regular Sunday morning involvement is necessary for this role. Summer months are flexible and allow for down weeks as agreed upon with their supervisor. This ongoing part-time salaried position is a vital member of the Family, Youth, and Children’s Ministries staff. Together this staff team partners with parents to pursue specific outcomes for life-long discipleship.

Volunteer Coordination and Equipping - Team leader for the following groups of volunteers: set design, tech team, small group leaders, hospitality, storytellers and hosts. Coordinates ongoing volunteer recruitment and training efforts with the Director of Children’s Ministries. Supported by the Children’s Ministry Intern.   


Content Development - Prepare the content of Kids’ Church by editing the small group curriculum and large group curriculum. Coordinates weekly large group game/activity. Supported by the Director of Children’s Ministries and the Kids’ Church Resourcing Team Leader.


Sunday Morning Leadership - Acts as the primary face of Kids' Church at Mill Run. Preferably capable of hosting large group. Supported by the Children’s Ministry Intern.




Qualifi cations – Education, Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes

The manager will be an energetic and contagious disciple of Jesus, who has a passion for seeing every student discover the love of God and every family supported in the formation of faith.

The manager’s preferred qualifications include:


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Willingness to understand and function within a Lutheran Confessional community.

Skills and Experience – Job and life history and demonstrated proficiency acquired

  • Experience managing detail oriented projects.
  • Capable of managing a wide variety of volunteer personalities and needs.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and able to learn various software planning tools.

Personal Attributes – Personal “giftedness” and passion

  • Ready and able to share a personal testimony of the transforming power of Jesus Christ.
  • Passes UALC’s safeguarding background check.
  • Humility in dealing with mistakes and initiative in resolving conflict.
  • Takes direction well and respects leadership.
  • Enjoys being part of a team and knows how to work cooperatively.

Work Week and Hours

As required and determined by Manager. Averaging 25 hours for 52 weeks is a total of 1300 hours. To maintain this average, the employee should plan for 25-30 hours per week during the school year. There are three low weeks during Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s without Kids’ Church. Averaging 5-10 hours per week during the months of June and July and then ramping back up in August at an average of 25-30 hours per week in August. Due to this seasonal variance and the part-time nature of this position no paid vacation is provided.

Working Conditions & Environment

The position works in a church environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, see, hear, sit, stand, type, walk and bend while moving about the facility.  The noise level in the facility is quiet.


This position reports to the Director of Children’s Ministries with oversight from the Director of Family, Youth, and Children’s Ministries.
