Sallisaw is a town of about 9,000 people with a market reach of about 26,000, located in eastern Oklahoma on I-40. Eastside Baptist Church has a growing congregation and currently has about 40-60 regular attendees. 60% of the Sallisaw area claims to be non-religious and an even greater percentage is without a church home. A majority of the households in Sallisaw have more than two people in them, meaning ministry to youth and their families is absolutely essential for a growing church.
Eastside Baptist Church is located on the eastern side of Sallisaw, OK across the street from an elementary school and next to a good neighborhood. We currently average 40 in attendance but our sanctuary will seat about 250 people and we are a part of the Southern Baptist Convention, Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma, and East Central Baptist Association. The congregation is multi-generational with a majority senior adults. The next largest group is children and youth, followed by young and median-adults. We currently have 10-15 youth on Wednesday nights.
Regular opportunities to preach will be given and raises will be given according to church growth.
What youth said they would want in a youth director (the most prominent answers):
They want someone who is sarcastic and funny.
They want someone who can be serious when he needs to be.
They want someone who likes to play sports.
They want someone who can get youth plugged in to serving in the church.
Note from the Pastor
Thank you so much for your interest in this position. If God is calling you to it, it is more than worth every effort. I know because my first ministry position was volunteer. It was at a big church in Lawton, OK and I spent about 30 hours/week doing ministry and then working most evenings to earn a paycheck. It was one of the best things I’ve ever done and I’d do it again. Our students are wild and crazy. They like to have fun and goof off. Sometimes they have trouble paying attention during the lesson time. Though I love youth ministry, finding a youth director is necessary for us to prepare for the church's continued growth. I look forward to meeting with you.
Send your resume and letter of interest to leadpastoreastsidesallisaw.com
If you are contacted, an interview will be scheduled with the Pastor Andrew
If the interview goes well, you will be asked to visit Eastside and begin helping with the youth (depends on location).
After we see how you engage the youth, your name will be passed to the personnel committee for their recommendation
You will speak on a Sunday Night before the church and the church will vote
