Director of Youth Ministry - Job Description October 2016
STATUS: Full-time, Salaried
General Purpose of Position:
This position is responsible for building young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a vision, strategy and comprehensive approach for all programs, activities (including fellowship, discipleship, ministry, and mission) and educational aspects related to the Youth Ministries (YM) at NLPC. The Director manages 6th-12th grade ministries, specifically, all Sunday, mid-week, mission, retreat and outreach programs. S/he is also expected to coordinate with, and when necessary support, the Director of Childrens Ministry with regard to Sunday worship services, Vacation Bible School, and the mid-week after-school program (LOGOS).
Depending on the education and experience level of the applicant, this position may include or grow to also encompass, and be compensated for, leadership of Young Adult Ministries.
Organizational Relationship and Supervision:
The Director of Youth Ministries reports to the Associate Pastor who oversees student and childrens ministries.
Education and Experience:
Bachelors Degree required, preferably in biblical studies or youth ministry.
Minimum of 3 years Youth Ministry experience (volunteer or paid youth leadership, including leadership responsibility and program management).
Valid U.S. drivers license.
Authorize NLPC to perform a background check (required of all staff and volunteers who interact with NLPC children and youth).

Planning and Development:
Develop a YM vision and specific objectives in collaboration with the Associate Pastor, Leadership Team and Session.
Establish an annual plan for YM, including strategies for growing participation, ongoing programs and major events (fundraisers, retreats, special activities and mission projects).
Submit a quarterly progress report to the Associate Pastor and Elder for Children and Youth.
Advocate for the YM within the NLPC congregation and the community.
Coordinate all YM programs for middle and high school students and their families.
Oversee the selection and implementation of curriculum.
Develop processes necessary for effective YM operations.
Effectively execute YM budget and financial oversight.
Recruit, train, and support YM volunteers.
Communicate to inform youth, staff, volunteers, parents and related ministries.
Communicate to promote YM within the congregation and community.
Implement all NLPC safety and security processes for YM.
Direct YM Leadership:
Provide up-front leadership for YM events.
Offer care and encouragement to youth, their families, and YM volunteers.
Mentor youth to develop leadership skills.
Coordinate and teach Confirmation Class, in partnership with the pastors.
Exhibit an active interest in the spiritual nurture of youth by being accessible to them beyond the church campus (attend school lunches, sporting events, concerts, meet you at the pole prayers, visitations at time of crisis, etc.).
NLPC Corporate Responsibilities:
Attend staff meetings regularly and be a good colleague to others on staff.
Participate in NLPC worship and occasionally lead an element of worship.
Share in the overall NLPC congregational life and attend special events as requested.
Observe all personnel policies and staff guidelines.
Personal and Professional Growth:
The Director of YM should desire to grow both personally and professionally, by attending seminars and classes to enhance applicable skills.
