HR Generalist

Location: Wake Forest

The human resource generalist performs duties at the professional level in some or all the following functional areas: employee relations, training, employment, benefits management, and payroll functions. This position requires an extremely perceptive person who can relate to individuals at all levels within the organization. The generalist must be sensitive to corporate needs, employee goodwill and the business needs.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate all the organization’s benefits to include: enrollments, terminations, claims resolution, change reporting, reconcile invoices for payment, and assist with annual re-evaluation of policies for cost effectiveness
  • Administer benefit programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurances, pension plans, wellness plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance
  • Drive the organization Wellness Program
  • Coordinate organizational communication, and education for benefits plans and HR newsletter
  • Conduct annual 403b Non-Discrimination Testing
  • Administer organization Service Award program, retirement awards and Scholarship Program
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of utilization and effectiveness analytics for organization wellness program and benefits plans; performance review program, employment status changes, hours worked, turnover, salaries and other employee statistics necessary for government reporting, compliance and maintaining employee equity
  • Perform verbal and written exit interviews and track trends related to employee turnover
  • Coordinate all Worker’s Compensation claims
  • Be the organization’s point person for benefit questions
  • Annually report EEO-1 and provide management diversity best practices
  • Maintain Workers Compensation insurance in all 40+ states
  • Manage organization anonymous Suggestion Program
  • Maintains awareness of, and consistently implements industry best practices in safeguarding Personal Identifiable Information (PII) and Private Health Information (PHI)
  • Assist with Staff recruiting ad placements, interview (prep & execution), resume review, researches areas for potential candidates
  • Assist in creating and implementing company policies & training – i.e. harassment, safety in conjunction with the Training department
  • Assists in training employees in performance review process and procedures
  • Assist in creating job descriptions
  • Create and maintain SOP manual for distinct processes in HR department
  • Assists in conducting wage surveys within labor market to determine competitive wage rate
  • Assists with new employee orientation
  • Maintains knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting human resources functions and ensures policies, procedures and reporting are in compliance; assists in ensuring up to date compliance postings
  • Ensure State Unemployment Tax rates are correct in payroll system
  • Responds to inquiries regarding policies, procedures and programs;
  • Stays abreast of ACA rules and reporting requirements; produces, distributes, and files annual 1094/1095 ACA reporting forms

  • Maintains strict confidentiality of client, company and personnel information
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related discipline
  • Three (3) to five (5) years relevant work experience in Human Resources
  • Knowledge of HR operations and administration required 
  • Knowledge of HR-related state and federal regulations required (multi-state preferred)
  • Generalist experience in a company with 100+ employees strongly preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: PHR or SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) designation preferred

Computer Skills:

Proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
